The guy sitting in the red seat needed first aid from a doctor after Ted Williams HR hit him on the head. Had Williams hit it to left field, the ball would have landed 192 feet beyond the Green Monster.

Boomers actually believe Mantle but a ball 560ft

One of my favorite melts on the MSB was when primetime money tore apart that myth stating how guys today (athletically superior in every way to guys 80 years ago) couldn’t hit that far it’s impossible that Mantle could then. The melt that followed:

quote:

Sorry, just can't buy that a generation that grew up eating fricking McDonalds is physically superior. THis is the worst generation in obseity rate ever. The most lethargic. THe least productive at work. The baseball game has slowed down...sloth like. (Fried food?) I would take lean muscle guys who won WWII and secured the safety of the free world in a baseball game over fat fricks who grew up on fast food and and Ice Cream and are mentally weak and physically doughy

People that compare today's players to the past players always say the past players couldn't do what they do today but today's players couldn't forgo 50 or 60 years' worth of knowledge and do what they do now back then either.

Probably no way of truly knowing as many of these distances are estimated (at best, some probably just fabricated).

That said, the longest ball I’ve ever seen hit in person was by Glenallen Hill for the Cubs during an exhibition game in the super dome, late 90s if I remember right.

But he hit one SEVERAL rows deep into the nosebleed seats in left center field. And as you can imagine, it was barely starting to cow down when it hit the seat.

Sammy Sosa was on that team and hit some absolute bombshell in BP, but even in BP none close to the one Hill hit.

I think Darryl Strawberry if he stayed away from cocaine could have challenged Ruth's HR record. That guy was as pure of a home run hitter as there was.

I was at that game, it was in June 1994 and he hit 3 home runs in that game. Against the Mariners. The Mariners owned the Rangers from 1993-1996 but that I think was the one game they won against the Mariners that year. Scored 18 runs or something like that. It hit the Target sign in the back of the visitor's bullpen.

505 ft in Texas

I have only been to maybe 5 Ranger games but I was at this one. I was just outside 1st, second deck, that thing got up and out of the infield fast, then it went and went until it ran into something hard.

I was only 6 years old, and my dad worked for the Rangers so I went to tons of Rangers games when I was younger, so they all kind of blur together. But I definitely remember that game very well

I saw the glen allen hill one that landed on top of the building in left field (tv). It really was 460 going on 700. It’s not really fair to stop that one on top of a six story building across the the street from the field. I guess that’s how you measure things but jeez.
