I just don’t think basketball is a big sport in Louisiana. Most people in New Orleans don’t even care about the Pelicans unless they make the playoffs.

they don’t win enough and this a football state. Also they don’t have any really marketable players. Davis is about as square as it gets for an nba player. But winning trumps all tbt. If they win the fans will come.

There is a lot of ignorance in this thread...yeah, I’m looking at you.

The Pelicans/Hornets has terrible ownership since their first day in NO. They had a few good seasons, and put out a good product during the CP3/DWest years, but still didn’t have much ownership to back them. The entire situation with the League taking over ownership was just sad.

With that said, Benson buying the team, rebranding, and finally starting to build a promising team around a Top 10 player, and the success they had last year displaying a fun brand of basketball to watch, things are looking up.

Cousins did not fit in this scheme....sure you hate to lose a guy like Boogie, but the bottom line is, this team was MUCH better without him. Julius Randle is a much bette fiwas than Cousins. Rondo leaving does hurt, but he didn’t exactly tear it up other than the postseason....plus a full year with Niko...

Louisiana has bought in, and I had several friends from out of state that pulled for them last season during the playoffs bc they were fun to watch. So the fandom is growing...

TL,DR

This is a flawed mindset. Especially considering the amateur talent that has come out of this state in the last three decades.

Comparing them to two blue blood brands is kinda setting them up for failure.

Pelicans are a small market team. No different from Memphis, Orlando or Oklahoma City.

Because Louisiana isn’t a huge basketball state

bullshite. Half the state is black. Blacks people love basketball. Along with another 15% or so of the population that considers themselves a basketball fan. Basketball is as American as any other sport. Most people probably don’t care because it’s a “black sport”

That’s because basketball is more of a big city sport. Outside of Nola is mainly country white trash

several very clear and obvious reasons:
- small market team
- no history of winning
- only 1 All-Star
- franchise has only been in NOLA for 15 years
- there are other historically good teams in the same area: Saints, LSU football, LSU baseball, etc

I live in The Woodlands and workout at LA Fitness. There are 2-3 other guys, besides myself, who often wear Pelicans gear at the gym. And that's only 30 miles from the Rocket's Toyota Center. Point is, we are within the radius of what should be the Rocket's epicenter of fandom and that's a decent fan representation for the Pelicans.

all of this is really obvious, leading me to believe this is nothing more than a troll job so the MSB can take a shite on the Pelican's fans. RA?

I think this might be a regional trend for the NBA. I've lived in four states with NBA teams in the South and outside of the Heat, you'd never even really know they exist throughout the rest of the state (outside of the city they're located in).

I rep Pels gear all the time in Lafayette. I was in Denver last month and saw an old baw in Pelicans gear. He ended up being from Livingston Parish, moved to Denver a couple of years ago.

There's more of us out there. Consecutive seasons getting the the playoffs would probably help

The nba will continue to lose support as long as the warriors are guaranteed to win every year

I remember going to the AAC two years ago to watch them play. I think I was one of 5 Pels fans in the building lol.

Wait... what exactly are you saying? Because a few guys at your gym are Pelicans fans that means something?
