To be fair LSU fans did this same thing with Shaq.

They weren't making the WCF with or without him but their odds are a hell of a lot better with him.

I’m a big LSU fan but I had to drop him once he got to the nba and people staying saying he was better than dream. dream promptly swept them.

Shaq was 22 and Dream was a well seasoned 32. Shaq still played well and put up 28 and 12 with 6.6 asts.

I always believed an in his prime Dream vs in his prime Shaq would have been a draw for the most part. I'd give slight edge to Hakeem though for overall skill set. Shaq was pretty fricking unstoppable in his own right.

exactly why we had an issue with those saying shaq was better at that time. I am a big believer in pecking order. Guys who have been around and proven they can win at the highest levels are always rated above the upstart. Until the younger guy proves differently. That been the way I always looked at it.

Lots of Rocketards in here. Until Hardin blew up a few years ago, you would hardly know Houston had an NBA team.

I lived less than 5 miles from Toyota Center and rarely saw Rockets gear. Astros bandwagon was fairly empty back then too.

Texans always had representation.

I will say that the Spurs fans are about on the level of Saints fans in NOLA. Houston fans are way more bandwagonish in general, but it's too be expected with so many transplants.

Shinn is the only reason New Orleans got a team.
Lucky New Orleans kept team when Shinn got out or after Katrina when OKC wanted them bad.

If it wasn't so hard to get to New Orleans on a week night it might draw better from the Baton Rouge or surrounding area crowd. It's hard to leave at noon just to get to a weeknight game not knowing how hard it will be to get there.

I just don’t give two shits about basketball, and not even one shite about the NBA.

Simple enough.

Most people are indifferent about the NBA around here. 20 years ago everyone was a Jordan fan and most of us didn't have any real loyalty to any team in particular. Most of the teams since they came here have been lackluster also in addition to Katrina happening. Add that to the fact that Cox Sports had exclusive rights for the first 10 plus years also and the fan following did not grow as it normally would have for anyone who had DirecTV or UVerse.

Wait wait, you saying Houston just now has a winning sqaud.

They have 3 losing season in the last 35, fewest of any pro sqaud in American sport. A run only bested by the yanks back in the day from what I have seen.

NBA is a garbage, boring league. if they played in any other league where there was actually more than 1 team capable of winning the title i would watch as much as i watch the astros

In all seriousness, the original New Orleans Hornets fricked themselves over when they made the broadcast rights deal with CST, which was not available in a lot of places that could have bought in. A lot of potential fans couldn't even watch them play.
