Yes. I feel bad for the players, but this is way way worse than buying random stuff for athletes.

No, this has absolutely nothing to do with the NCAA and the current players on the team.
This. Apparently some people on this board think the NCAA is the highest arbiter of law in the land

I've already voiced an opinion in favor of Sanctions but no Death Penalty.
But posing as the Devil's Advocate for a moment: What if the use of the Death Penalty at PSU were a good example that helped restrict the sometimes unfettered power of a head football coach on campus?
If the NCAA handed down a ruling that placed an emphasis on institutional oversight over the head football coach could this be a good thing for college football programs around the country? Certainly there were a lot of individual mistakes made at PSU - but the primary institutional problem of a single person (Paterno in this case) having too much power and no effective oversight happens in more places than just PSU

No.
If I was the NCAA, I'd definitely put them on double secret probation for the next 10 years.

No. Maybe something else, but not the death penalty.

No I dont think anyone thinks that. I do think the NCAA is the highest arbitrar of amateur collegiate athletics and since this scandal has involved coverups of mass atrocities to protect amateur collegiate athletic program then the NCAA must take some sort of action.
As for me-heavy sanctions should come down immediately. Death Penalty should be on the table. However they should have a full investigation before using it and should wait minimum 1 year because of scheduling obligations of the opponents.

I have a perfectly appropriate punishment for Penn State. Force them to make Christine Brennan their Athletic Director for 20 years:

No
The people that were responsible aren't there anymore, the athletes on the team weren't responsible, and football is a great way for the community to get together. I would be in favor of the profits from the game going to a charity or something like that. I would also like them to take down anything associated with Joe Paterno.

Yes. Without question
Posted on 7/16/12 at 5:06 pm to dawgfan24348
No as imposed by the NCAA. Yes, if imposed by the University.

NO,
1. the NCAA most likely has no authority to penalize for what happened
2. No one currently in the program had anything to do with it
3. What happened did not give PSU any competitive advantage
4. Would screw all the other teams they have scheduled

Why should football players have to pay for their school and coach's stupidity? No death penalty.
