I was listening to a national radio sports show yesterday, and an African American gentleman called in and made the following point, that the host agreed with:

"What no one is talking about is that ownership is just a contract. No one in this country owns anything. They own it only by the grace of the US government. WE THE PEOPLE can take it from you at any time. We own it."

I could not imagine a more dangerous and un-AMerican thought process
I do agree, that thought is ridiculous.

But, that is not the logic in this instance. The logic is that Sterling owns 1/30th of a franchise that is part of an association with rules/contracts along the way. It's nothing like starting your own mom and pop start up company, that's where people go wrong with the comparisons.

No, he is not. OP is just an assclown and likes to get reactions.

Ftr, if LBJ does sit or actually says he will if sterling still owns the team, he can go frick himself and I won't pull for the heat anymore.

I agree with this 100%. Unless it's a league wide thing in which case I'll just hate all the players. But if he's part of a select group or takes an active personal role in leading a boycott then frick him

It would be hilarious for the NBA to take a MASSIVE hit, then them all to be resigned for way less money after the breach of contract.

I would fricking LOVE that. It would be hilarious to see the NBA go in full 1995 MLB decline mode. And it would not be Donald Sterling's fault. It would be their own fault.

You really think these players have the leverage? Even at their pay, most of them have so outspent themselves or mishandled their money that if they lose a couple paychecks from a boycott they will cave. I doubt they could make it to the All-Star Break if both sides truly dug their heels in.*

*boycott will never happen. No player will put $$$ on the line for principle. Tossing the jerseys in a pile in a useless symbolic gesture is one thing. Actual financial sacrifice?

Yep. If it is league wide, the league can frick itself and they can just shut it down. Won't bother me one iota.

When they want to get paid, they can come back or they can stay gone and frick off if they want.

I like the NBA, but I do not like mob rule and bullshite threats. So, frick him, them, or whatever if they want to play that game.

They are the product, of course they have all the leverage.

It wouldn't have to come to that, they'd get their way before a single game was missed.

I love how the players are driving people to be sympathetic towards donald sterling.

I mean damn, what if one of these players ever makes an egregious frickup. Of course nothing will happen because the league needs players more than owners.

I believe Lebron as much as I believe the golden state warriors would boycott a game. And you might want to learn how to speak and fix that double negative, unless you're just a bitch and leaving yourself an out.

I disagree. These owners won't be strong armed. It sets a bad precedent for them to let a boycott affect change so quickly. Right now it's for a "good cause" in getting sterling thrown out. But what if it's about money next time?

I realize this, but he keeps going and keeps going. Just say a politically correct response and move on. You don't have to answer every question on the topic, but he wants to. He wants to be in the middle of this and it bothers me.

Happens "all the time" with player strikes, both sides usually meet somewhere in the middle.

In this case, if there were truly no middle, I'm certain the owner/NBA would figure out a way and it would be taken care of.

He let KD win an MVP this year. Might be his way of letting KD win a championship.

I think we're losing sight of this: The owners want their money as well, and they're not going to lose their money to keep a guy around that they don't even want there.

Lebron doesn't have a problem with the NBA allowing players convicted of homicide, rape or drug abuse to play in the league, but someone he disagrees with should not own a team. Got it.

ETA: I think the players should hold the players in the league to the same standards as the owners. Issiah Thomas should have been barred from the league when he said "if Larry Bird was black, he be just another good guy"
