Expansion killed Arkansas. They have been dead ever since 2012.

I doubt KSU or WVU come as close as they did in 1998 and 2007 respectively ever again.

KSU's especially has to sting. It wasn't a case of them being elite based on some scheme nobody had figured out how to defend; they were simply the best team in the country and just didn't get it done.

Wisconsin hasn't come as close as those 2. Their 2010 team was the hottest in the country by the end of the year and IMO natty-caliber, but it's not like were in the driver's seat for the title game and blew it. Their 2017 team came very close to an undefeated regular season, but IMO they weren't quite on the level of Bama, Georgia, or OU.

Georgia Tech has 4 championships and could probably claim 3 more if they wanted to be like those Auburn bitches

Arkansas would be another

They have a recognized National Championship in 64. I get that some say Bama, but the NCAA credits it and most outlets credit it.

Va Tech

Never mind we are not getting back there during my lifetime....still hurts we were leading FSU going into the 4th quarter in the 2000 Sugar Bowl...

Still have Peter Warrick nightmares

And with the playoffs the chances of Cinderellas getting on a 3 or 4 game streak is nearly impossible. Even a great WVU, VT, Az St, etc team will be hard pressed to match the depth of an LSU, Alabama, etc...

The Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. I was at that game.
I was also at the Final Four game in Indianaoplis when the Gators won their first basketball national championship.
Not bad for someone who is not a Florida fan.

They didn't win the coaches or AP poll, Bama won both. The same NCAA that recognizes it also credits with Auburn winning 4 this week. Notre Dame was also named champion in '64, but they don't claim. it.

If we're just going by the two Power Conferences, I'd put my money on:

Mississippi State

Hell yeah. Let me know if you place that bet.

Miss St is now a worse job in football than Vandy. Hard times in Starkville.

They were #1 in the FWAA poll, which was a major poll at the time.

In 1964 the FWAA poll had 5 voters, one of which voted for Texas.
