I'm so conflicted. Part of me wants them to miss the postseason entirely, but another part wants them to scrape their way to the 8 seed and get swept.

As always, though, frick the lakers.

Nah, put them in the lottery, and let Kobe represent the Lakers by shooting FTs on stage while the ping pong balls are being drawn to show he's constantly working on his game to help his team.

8th seed around 48-49 wins

LOL

that's a win % of 59%. The 7th seed right now is at 51%. But I'm sure Houston or Portland will play 66% ball the rest of the way

The 8th seed this year will probably be around 42-44 wins. Possible for the Lakers to catch if they start playing good, but they are the most pathetic "team" in NBA history.

The Lakers can still make the playoffs. The fact people still bring up Kobe in the conversation of the best in the NBA and hold him to the standard of making the playoffs every year in his seventeenth season proves he is the GOAT

The chances of a 49 win team being in the 8th seed are beyond remote.

You only say that because Portland and Houston aren't playing well at the moment

Portland has the worst bench in the NBA and their starters are leading the league in minutes played. Obviously they aren't going to lose every game the rest of the season, but they're going to get worse if anything. Houston could get on a hot streak, but they're a .500 type team this season.

Dwight and Kobe don't mesh(Dwight and anybody actually), Howard an FA this next offseason? Lakeshow old and 30M over the luxury tax this year, the tax goes up next season. Gotta move him to NJ and get something back before he walks away?

Youth is being served in NBA, NFL, and MLB of late..many regular heavyweight teams are bloated in pay, in heavy roster retooling, and/or decline..

Lakeshow a poster-child of one.

there is no conversation for best player in the NBA anymore.

Not by rational folks, at least.

This is the worst laker season i have ever witnessed. We have soooo many problems that i cant even begin to start. This will only be the 2nd time in my entire life that the lakers will miss the playoffs. At least Boston is tanking as well

Not gonna happen. If they're smart they'll can D'Antoni at the end of the season and hire a real coach.

It will take around 46 to get in; last year the 8th seed in the West won only .545 of their games (36-30)-- but that's unusually low for the last half decade.

2011: .565 (46-36 Griz as the 8th seed)
2010: .610 (50-32 OKC as the 8th seed)
2009: .585 (48-34 Utah as the 8th seed)
2008: .610 (50-32 Denver as the 8th seed)

Unless you think the bottom is falling out of the Western Conference, 44 or 45 wins is likely to be the absolute floor for an 8th seed.

For the past 4-5 years, IMO. Maybe longer.

2008-2009 was probably the passing of the torch. Of course, people always forget about how fricking good Chris Paul is.
