Kyrie was in his element, so to speak, following a deplorable loss to the New Orleans Pelicans last night. The 8-time All-Star poured his heart out in a Twitch live session, during which he also spoke about some other issues close to his heart.

In one particular segment, he blamed sports betting and the public’s craze about it for making NBA fandom more toxic over the years. You may recall that Adam Silver paved the way for this starting in the 2018-19 season. Kyrie’s rant goes thus:

“Gambling and sports betting has completely taken the purity and the fun away from the game at times…There’s a difference between being a diehard fan and supporting your team and loving your team vs somebody that’s betting on a parlay or somebody that wants to hit.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want people wasting their money on me. But god damn! This whole community of gamblers has come into the game of basketball.”

“If you wanna gamble, why don’t you gamble on something that makes sense to you. If you gamble on me, I’m not gonna tell you if this is a good game or a bad game.”

“You’re gonna win or lose, but that doesn’t mean sliding into people’s DMs or wishing bad on them or doing the extra s**t that goes on (is good). It blows my mind!”

So has the cost to attend games because you all demand so much money.

So has the whining and complaining you all do constantly

So has the political bullshite you all have brought to the NBA

So has the way you all play the game now with no defense and drawing fouls

So has the way you stars sit out games cause you’re tired

I could go on Kyrie. Don’t bitch about the gamblers that actually bring in money and increase viewership that allows you to get paid more and more

PS - I am a gambler, but hardly ever touch NBA games

I'm sure the corporate tickets, huge money tv deals, and players controlling the league are in the spirit of purity though.

Sports gambling will be Gen Z's fentanyl epidemic. Too easy to do, very acceptable in society, and advertised everywhere. I'm not blameless but I make sure to keep all gambling expenses under 1k a year.

Yea it's about gambling and betting and has nothing to do with you resting for 2/3s of the season.

I am not a Kyrie fan but people lashing out at him because they lost a bet is ridiculous.

NBA players can’t just blame gambling.

The main reason the “purity” of the game is gone is simply because of how much money they make these days. That is 100% the reason why players are lazier and softer, which results in fans becoming easily annoyed with the players/game.

That same night there is a video of Kyrie talking to a fan courtside and basically laughing at the idea of the fan telling Kyrie how to play basketball.

Then immediately after the game, Kyrie is telling fans how they should be fans of basketball.

This is soooooo on brand for Kyrie.

Not sure why it blows his mind considering that is some of the same exact shite he endorsed with that movie, but Kyrie gonna Kyrie!

It's shitty to DM a player who loses you a bet, that's the only good point he made there and it's an obvious one. The other stuff he said is typical nonsensical and no self awareness Kyrie.

he’s right though that it’s more of a social media problem. Gambling has been around forever but now a degenerate can hop on Twitter to tell a player he’s a worthless pos who can diaf because he went over on rebounds
