My buddy said a few years ago, “he’s the white Jordan Jefferson” and ever since then I’ve been unable to unsee it.

Darnold/Mayfield, Mac getting better at SF, etc.?
The last QB to get drafted in the first round with as little production as JJ was Daniel Jones.
And JJ is a poor man’s Daniel Jones at best.

It's funny because he's short.

Still can't believe Murray didn't take that baseball contract.

How? He was a higher pick in the NFL, signed a much larger contract, and was immediately in the league.

The entire advantage of having a QB on a rookie deal start is it’s a huge advantage in the cap. If McCarthy is even just average, it’s a huge boom for the team paying the QB that little.
Yeah it’s a huge advantage for the cap situation but the guy still has to be able to play a LITTLE

JJ going first round in fantasy again.

I thought he was a solid pick coming out of the draft. Pro Style quarterback. Played for Harbaugh. Sitting out his entire rookie season couldn't have helped then he misses another 7 games last season.
It took Darnold several seasons to find his way in the league. He credited a big jump in his development to sitting by Brock Purdy and working the Shanahan and his staff.
McCarthy needs this step back. Stay healthy for a season, put in the work on film and on the practice field and maybe he can catch his break.

I can’t believe a team wasted a top10 pick on fricking JJ McCarthy
He had a good, not great game against Bama in the playoff, and all of a sudden espn and (some) nfl front offices thought that that meant he was worthy of a 1st round pick.
However, that game was the only game in his last 6 where he threw for over 200 yards. Matter of fact, the only teams he threw over 200 yards against in 2024 were ECU, UNLV, Rutgers, Minnesota, Indiana, Mich St, and Purdue.

If you watched Darnold in college, you could clearly see that he had the stuff to be an NFL qb. His performance in the Rose Bowl against PSU was insane. Dude threw for 453 yards and 5 TDs. McCarthy never came close to having a performance like that at Michigan.

McCarthy was so good for Michigan that they handed the ball off like 30 straight times against Penn State and still won by 2 scores

McCarthy never needed a performance like that at Michigan.
Why it took Darnold so long, who knows, but I'm just saying sometimes it takes a guy a while and sometimes it's the right situation that's needed. McCarthy may or may not come back around even with that.

Definitely could have used a performance like that against TCU in 2022.

I agree with you here.

Kyler has never been bad in the NFL. He’s just been stuck on a crappy franchise in a goated division and had some injury problems.

Touche. I didn't think they'd have the trouble they did against TCU.

Who would have thought that a college QB with 2700 yards and 2900 in 2 years as a starter would not make it in the NFL as a starting QB?
