only athletes I can think of like this are Roberto Clemente, Pete Maravich, and Payne Stewart. But none of those even come close to the stature of Kobe. So sad

Dale Earnhardt's death was at the peak of NASCAR popularity

I tend to agree with this. Only other person I can think of this shocking would be Whitney Houston

Michael Jackson was every bit as big as both of them

worldwide? no. in the USA? Biggest celebrity death since Elvis

Prince was a bigger celebrity than Kobe. Maybe slightly less shocking of death as he had to make an emergency landing and ER visit a day or two before.

Too much BS being rumored right now. Kobe is bad enough, we don't have to think about anything else until it's confirmed.

Kobe was the type of athlete/person that I was genuinely excited to see and hear from as we both got older

12:35 PM PT -- Kobe's daughter Gianna Maria -- aka GiGi -- was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash ... reps for Kobe tell TMZ Sports. She was 13. We're told they were on their way to the Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when the crash occurred. The Academy is in nearby Thousand Oaks.

Damn

Agree but this board was also about to blow a gasket when the news hadn’t been reported on ESPN for all of about 10 minutes,.

Shocking? No

Everyone knew Whitney had drug problems. That in itself made it not as shocking as a helicopter crash.

The first 20 pages was people demanding this.

Also Lisa Salters just asked Brees about it and could barely get the words out.

This last hour has got to be some of the shittiest reporting I've ever seen.

False reports just being thrown at the wall everywhere

Yet earlier people complained that ESPN was too slow

TMZ has been accurate on this so far. They seem to be the most reliable, everyone else is throwing diarrhea at the wall.
