Now, the champs are returning the favor.

Knicks owner James Dolan confirmed Wednesday during an interview on WFAN that the team will go to the White House to be feted by the president.

It will mark the first time an NBA champion is visiting the White House in either of Trump’s two terms.

“We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted,” Dolan said when asked about a potential visit to the nation’s capital. “We still have to figure out the details, et cetera, but yes, of course. Look, I invited the president to come down for the game. He is a friend. I’ve known him for 30 years and I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House.”

Trump, a New York native and Knicks fan, became the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game when he came to New York for Game 3. He sat in a suite with his granddaughter, Kai, and Dolan. He was shown on the video board during the national anthem.

After the Knicks rallied to win Game 5 in San Antonio, securing their first NBA championship in 53 years, Trump extolled their efforts in a post on social media.

“Congratulations to Jim Dolan and the New York Knicks!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “What incredible playoff wins we have all witnessed, especially the last four — maybe the greatest in the history of basketball.

Here's what every other NBA champion has done since Trump first became president, with teams who won during Joe Biden's term bolded:

2016-17 Golden State Warriors: Famously no

2017-18 Golden State Warriors: No

2018-19 Toronto Raptors: No

2019-20 Los Angeles Lakers: Waited for Joe Biden, nixed due to COVID-19

2020-21 Milwaukee Bucks: Yes

2021-22 Golden State Warriors: Yes

2022-23 Denver Nuggets: No

2023-24 Boston Celtics: Yes

2024-25 Oklahoma City Thunder: No

Declining a visit is so odd. Seems like any rational person would enjoy the experience for what it is regardless of your politics. Or, if you're really that ate up with politics, the sitting president is literally inviting you to his house and you can talk to him.

Either way you're better off going. Declining makes no sense.

If there is anyone that realizes the realistic impacts of extreme high taxation, it is the guys on this team.

Yeah I'm sure they'll get tons of backlash before the visit. Let's see if they back out because of it

I imagine the NBAPA is reaching out to them already after Dolan's statement. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Big shocker the NBA is probably the worst in terms of being proud to American. Honestly, who cares?

I don’t think there has ever been a more likable champion in modern NBA history than America’s Knicks!
