Agreed but it’s going to be interesting to see how they move Deng tho.

Have to remember that the Lakers most likely will not have 30 mil in cap space to sign Kawhi next year, although the Clippers will. So I could see a Boston or Philly calling his bluff.

If the spurs are going to rebuild, I'd prefer it be now that they Warriors have a first grasp on the West for the next several years. I hope they can get some good young guys out of this. Gotta look a few years down the road if you are RC Buford.

No shite. I can’t belive he is leaving all that money on the table just to get out. It’s mindboggling

Spurs lost a lot of leverage.

Boogie on a one and one and anyone not named Jrue, AD or Niko for Kawhi.

I would bet my left nut that Popovich told him he isn’t offering the supermax. The difference between a normal max with a team that owns Bird rights and a team that doesn’t is not much. The 5th year is pointless because everyone opts out of it anyways.

We’ve seen both Aldridge and Howard turn down similar 5 year max deals to take a 4 year max elsewhere

Do we even know the supermax was on the table. They had rumors during the season that the Spurs were hesitant about offering it.

Yeah, it would be tough to do, but it’s possible. ESPN explained how it could get done:

except the lakers were not motivated to bring in paul last year because they were/are convinced hes coming this year.

One of the better excuses by Lakers Nation for that major fail by Pelinka/Magic

more likely that they have made it clear they arent offing the supermax extension this year, and they wont consider a supermax new contract until they see him play

which means:
1) kawhi's eligibility for the extension would expire on the 1st day of the season
2) he'd have to re-qualify this year (MVP, DPOY or all-NBA) so he wouldnt know whether he would get it till after this year

if i were kawhi i'd demand a trade as well, if thats true

Another team to watch in the Kawhi sweepstakes: Sacramento. Kings have talked to teams about the No. 2 pick, per sources, and desperately want an established star.

Pop gonna ship Kawhi to cowbell country and usher in the Doncic era

Send his arse to Milwaukee or Toronto. Don’t send him to any premier location.

Me too. That way Dell can fleece Vlade out of Kawhi at next year's deadline
