Edsall did note Connecticut would consider players in the transfer portal if his staff had a pre-established relationship recruiting them out of high school or junior college.

Which makes his take even stupider.

Fuente is going to cook if he doesn't beat UVA and win 8+ next season. I live with an alum and the locals are not frickin happy with him.

The irony is the QB that dug VT out the hole last year was in the portal before deciding to come back

Fuente isn’t going to last much longer at this rate

A frick ton of dudes are leaving in the portal and his recruiting class is awful like 84th bad

There's absolutely truth to what they say.

Regardless not smart to say it publicly and also not smartnto ignore the portal.

It's a necessary evil in modern college football. They gotta deal with it.

Fuentes comment, sure because that's basically a standard you're either all in or all out cliche. Edsall's statement is stupid.

I remember when the POS took a separate flight, from his coaches and players, from the Fiesta Bowl (?) straight to Maryland to take that job. Didn't even tell his team.

Using Fuente's own logic Virginia Tech should have fired him the moment he started flirting with Baylor and Arkansas.

Don’t blame him for not wanting them back. Scared of competition

Well Burrow put his name in the xnfer portal a couple seasons ago and I sure didn't think he had issues, same thing with Thadeaus Moss. But he believes whatever he believes and LSU gets to take home some prized prospects. : )

Randy Edsall is 6-30 in his second stint at UConn and his four classes have ranked #101, #102, #113, #118.

Good luck ever making a bowl again with this approach.

Edsall is the biggest hypocrite. He left UConn for Maryland and begged to return to UConn after failing there.

Fuente’s probably gone after next season, might as well try to retain the little talent he has

I do think both make a point regarding likely a decent amount of the players in the portal.

The ones we hear about most are the blue chips and primarily QB’s, who really only leave for playing time.

One decent example I can give is former LSU CB Terrence Alexander. Stanford grad, grad transferred to LSU. He doesn’t play hardly any snaps all year, gets the start in the bowl game because there are literally no other DB’s available and he immediately gets ejected for throwing a punch and then leaves LSU after failing out that semester

There are almost certainly much more failures that go into the portal than there are successes.

Well, both are failing coaches, so I don't know if I would listen to them.
