OSU QB Justin Fields has confirmed to NFL teams during the pre-draft process that he is managing epilepsy – a neurological disorder that can cause seizures, per me and @TomPelissero. It has not affected football & doctors believe he’ll outgrow it as his other family members have.

Not being a smartass but I legitimately didn't know epilepsy was something you could "grow out of".. Interesting

I want to say the medicine Faneca took for awhile was banned by the NFL and he had to get waivers to take it and play

I'd be pretty pissed that somebody had leaked this if I was Fields

But I could see where teams might have concerns about concussions with existing epilepsy but probably not a big deal.

I remember a movie where they guy was getting head from his girl (who had epilepsy) and in the middle of it he decided to show off his strobe light. And well, you can imagine what ensued after

This isn't as bad as Michael Sam's N.F.L. interviews

I wouldn't touch him with a top 27 pick of the draft.

Wouldn’t he have to make it known on his questionnaire during a physical?

Speaking as a person with epilepsy, I'm glad that he's in a position to inspire others with the condition.

There's a lot of little kids out there who are going to look up to him. When I was a kid, there weren't many epileptic athletes in the pro ranks. Usually when teams and schools find out we have epilepsy, they find any reason to cut us because they are afraid of liability concerns.

As for outgrowing seizures... I'm 50 years old, and I haven't had a seizure since age 21. It's possible to "outgrow" seizures, in a manner of speaking.

1 out of every 100 people are epileptic. Way more common than people think.

Many prominent Americans such as former First Lady Ida McKinley have battled epilepsy.

When one of her bouts began, Mrs. McKinley would suddenly break from normal conversation and begin hissing or making faces at dinner guests in the White House. Her portly husband would then be obliged to calmly place a large dinner napkin over her head. Much like a parakeet whose cage is covered, Ida would quickly calm down and stop hissing.

A lot of neurological disorders decrease with age.

I'm the opposite. I started having tonic/clonic seizures when I was in my 40's. My epilepsy is due to head injuries. And actually 1 in 26 people have epilepsy, it's very prevalent.

I do hope he inspires kids with epilepsy to participate in sports.

I have an uncle who has been dealing with this for like 50 years and I had no idea outgrowing seizures was a thing.
