"This is an awful place we're in in college basketball," he said. "Pittsburgh bought a team. OK, fine. My [big donor] talks about it, but he doesn't give anyone any money. Nothing. Not one guy. Our guys make like $20,000. Wake Forest bought a team. Miami bought a team. ... It's like, 'Really, this is where we are?' That's really where we are, and it's only going to get worse."

He added: "It's crazy. That's why those guys got out — that's why Jay [Wright] got out, Mike [Krzyzewski] got out. That's the reason they got out. The transfer portal and everything is nuts. It really is."

quote:

Boeheim once announced in 2015 he would retire by 2018, but has continued to coach on even as his contemporaries like Mike Krzyzewski and Roy Williams hang up their whistles. He said last year he has an "iron-clad" succession plan, but still reserves the right to decide when it will be used.

He is 100% right. For some reason, they are intentionally trying to ruin college sports.

Anyone who defends NIL is a fool.

NIL on the surface isn’t the problem. It’s the wild Wild West bullshite ncaa has allowed it to become that’s the issue.

Curmudgeon Jim isn't wrong. He's the last coach left from a bygone era. He probably should have retired already, but he's never liked anything but basketball his entire life, so what's he gonna do, shovel snow? Now, I just want him to stay to throw a crotchety wrench into the gears once in awhile.

NIL is long overdue and should have always been a thing. It's chaotic right now, but I think it will find a natural order after awhile.

Transfer portal is a joke.

There just needs to be rules about it. The NCAA should have allowed NIL decades ago, but instead kicked it down the road and now we are here.

The transfer portal has ruined college sports far more than NIL could ever hope too.

Yeah all the coaches that have been paying players under the table for decades are mad other teams have the same level paying field
Saban
Boeheim
K
Roy Williams
Calipari
The list goes on
Cuse was definitely paying players a long time

If he is making that decision, then the inmates run the asylum at Syracuse.

They got out because it's a level playing field now and they were about to be exposed.

Really Boeheoim? You go after Pittsburg, Wake Forest and Miami for buying buying teams and pretend your buddy K who has done worse than any of those - and everyone knows it - is fed up and getting out because of it?

I don't know Baws. One could argue the transfer portal has evened the playing field. Any of you baws ever think you would live to see the day that Tulane would beat USC in The Cotton Bowl?
