How much time do you think he would truly have to spend in Lubbock?
Lubbock may not be California weather but it's more quiet, peaceful, and significantly less traffic and people.
Any head basketball coach in college, especially bigger programs,is likely out recruiting a lot of the time. When they dont have to recruit or coach they have more than enough money to be wherever they want in the world.

I think it's realistic to say it's a better job than Texas Tech.

Is it? Just because a job is located in a major metro area doesn't make it a better job.
UCLA is archaic.
UCLA is definitely a better gig than Texas Tech.
UCLA has better:
- Talent pool to recruit
- WAYYY better city to live in
- More financial resources (look at AD revenue)
- Better facilities
- More tradition, even in the last 20 years

I’m pretty sure Beard’s three kids live in Lubbock permanently with his ex wife or something. I think he could leave Tech under the right circumstances (mainly a job that’s still somewhat close to Lubbock) but I don’t think it will be easy to pull him from there.

Los Angeles is a great city but there are tons of people who would never live there in a million years for lots of reasons.

UCLA athletics are pretty shite and their facilities are even more shitty. That school doesn’t give reinshits about their athletic program which is why they struggle to succeed in football and basketball

Um what? UCLA spent about 130 million on remodeling Pauley and about 80 million on the football facility. They have the facilities and money. They don't have a progressive thinking Athletic Department.

Lubbock is awful.
There are less reasons TO live in Lubbock than NOT TO live in Los Angeles, especially if you're making a shite ton of money.

Then they just did this all recently

Then why do Los Angeles area universities suck at basketball?

The “he’ll never leave, he’s at his alma mater” argument takes a hit. He’s also still pretty young (53.)

Especially considering Los Angeles is apparently where everybody on Earth wants to be.

USC and UCLA are different. UCLA, who we are talking about here, is far superior because they focus on basketball a lot more than USC. USC is a football school.
UCLA has been to 3 Sweet 16s in the last 6 years and made 3 straight Final 4's from 06-08. I would hardly call that sucking at basketball overall.
In the last 15 years, here is UCLA vs. TTU:
Win %:
UCLA - 69%
TTU - 53%
TCU - 46%
Florida - 71%
Tournament Births:
UCLA - 10
TTU - 5
TCU - 1
Florida - 11
Seasons where they reached AP Top 25:
UCLA - 12
TTU - 4
TCU - 3
Florida - 11
UCLA is a far better basketball school and job than Texas Tech.
ETA:
Remember I'm just arguing TTU v. UCLA, not TCU. But I threw TCU in there for fun.
Also, adding Florida in there, who no one says "sucks at basketball" to compare to UCLA the last 15 years.

Odd that UCLA would fire Ben howland only to hire his disciple a few years later.

and a wet blanket one at that. the admissions scandal fricked us over and it might frick yall over next fall when yall are looking for a football coach

2 pages in and not one mention that Dixon would be leaving his alma mater. That’s a big pull for UCLA
