Depends on if you are ranking pure municipal land area vs consolidated city-county.

It really is a fine city. Has a river run through it. Has an ocean next to it. Spread out so has very distinctive areas you can live in. It has anything most large cities have. NFL is very supported because its their only major sport (same as OKC has NBA as only major).

And lots of places are a shortish drive. St Augustine is close. Then Daytona Beach. Of course Orlando if you want those type things. Can go to panhandle for great sand beaches.

The St Johns River flows north too. Running joke says its because Georgia sucks. But it does run north.

Jaguars are badass. Their mascot does not do a jaguar justice. Jaguars stalking crocodiles from trees and jumping in the water and killing a croc and dragging it out are some of the most badass videos out there.

Too late. Especially where I am at in St. John's county but honestly most people I have met that I have moved here seem to be good people and most seem to have moved here to get away from all the political bs in their states. Been here since we got the team in 1995 and go jags

You talked about their mascot, so I replied to it. Pretty simple

The perception of Jacksonville is unique because it’s so spread out, the “centralized” downtown area seems empty of people.

What do you go to downtown for?
You have events at Daly Crnter, Florida theater, Vystar Area, the performance arts center. You have sporting events at Vystar, everbsnk, and the shrimp stadium.

Want nice high end restaurants and your high density luxury apartments, San Marco across the river.

Want shopping, 15 minutes south to town center and a more suburban feel

Want a residential beach, go to Atlantic beach. Want a nice beach are , go to Neptune beach. Want a slightly trashy beach, go to Jax beach. Want a rich beach area, go to Ponte Vedra (technically not in Jacksonville but just by semantics). Also have been enjoying recently going to Ponte Vedra concert hall which was just redone.

That’s not even including Riverside, or really much of anything west of the river which I spend no time.

Sure, there are shitty areas of the city. But I don’t spend time in those areas.

If you can’t find things to do, you’re not trying.

Also, fishing is everywhere and great fish camps everywhere for people who don’t fish.

I'm using incorporated areas. Not that ~750 sq mi of land and ~125 sq mi of water isn't huge, but it's not #1... much like there's nothing particularly unique about the st johns flowing north, despite the lies we were raised on. There is some truth to Georgia sucking as the underlying cause personally, i love the size, as it's pretty easy to write off people who don't have a car as being completely unserious humans, possibly with multiple DUIs.

Also, my sincerest sympathies on night of light traffic. I get you probably don't live downtown, but what a clusterfrick that situation is.

Jaguars are as native to n.e. Florida as tigers are to baton rouge

IMO It's nice that downtown doesn't have a ton of stuff to do because it makes event traffic more manageable. Compared to other large cities I've lived in you can get in and out of downtown after an event fairly easily.

I would also add that I think the beaches are seriously underrated. Crowds are always manageable and you can find a specific beach that suits what you want to do: surf, fish, drink, look for shells/teeth, swim/wade in the water, etc.

An LSU fan calling Jaguars a boring mascot when LSU is the "Tigers", a sports mascot so painfully common there are two other "Tigers" in their own conference, is an amazing lack of self awareness.

So what? It's a common as frick name.

It would be like saying a 5 year old name John is boring when your 50 year old arse is named James.

Do some research....

Auburn is technically the "War Eagles"...

and Missouri just joined the SEC...

Jaguars are at least native to Florida. LSU’s adoption of tigers came 30 years after a failed regiment from the Civil War.
