Yes.

These threads always go off the rails into whataboutisms quickly, but the clear answer is Yes. He should and will be.

Doesn’t Jason Witten have better career numbers at this point? Is he a first ballot?

Probably. He was never really considered the best TE in the league at any point but he was an 11x pro bowler. Being likeable and playing for the Cowgirls helps too.

Kelce probably will be too, especially if the Chiefs have any kind of success over the next few years. He's no doubt been the best TE in the league for the past 5 years. His peak is better relative to Witten.

John Mackey says hold my beer to both Gronk and Gonzalez

The All time list goes
Mackey
Gronk
Bavaro
Gonzalez
Winslow
Newsome
Sharpe
Ditka
Gates

Then you put Kelce and Witten somewhere around there and add Dave Casper and Russ Francis to that list with Kelce and Witten. Not sure what to do about Shockey and Graham. They were the ultimate TE but once injuries hit they were gone.

The way Belichick and Parcells talk about Bavaro it’s criminal he’s not in yet.

Not only doesn't he hold that record (Favre), he doesn't even hold the record for quarterbacks named Manning.

1. Favre - 297
10. Eli - 210
12. Peyton - 208

Much prettier? Nah. Comes down to personal preference. I'll take Kelce's girl.

Was Eli ever a top 5 QB in the league at any point in his career?

Probably not, never selected as an All-Pro even once. But still only 5 other QBs were two time Super Bowl MVPs. He was a dang good QB most of his career, and for sure a "great" QB not simply mediocre or just good.

Mediocre QBs have won super bowls and done well in the playoffs

But not twice. Think about it, he has more super bowl wins then Aaron Rodger, Drew Brees, Bret Favre, Dan Marino, and as many as his brother, Big Ben, Bart Starr, John Elway, Eli is a first round ballot and deserves it.

I don’t know how someone can type that out and think “Eli deserves to be in” and not “we put too much weight on rings”

Kelce was almost always a top 3 TE for every year of his career. That absolutely if 1st ballot worthy

Question, how many years was Eli even top 8 at Qb? How many times top 10?

Top 8? Maybe like 2 years, max.

A good barometer is: Would you rather have Eli, or Matt Ryan?

Matt Ryan is better statistically in every single way. He doesn't have the rings Eli has, but he does have an MVP of the entire league for an entire season, not just MVP of two Super Bowls (when we all know if there isn't some super standout player at another position that award goes to the winning QB almost by default).

Does Matt Ryan deserve to be a first ballot Hall of Fame player, or even in it at all? I don't think hes a great you have to get in as soon as hes eligible, but its a maybe on electing him later.

Eli also isn't even in the top 50 all time in Passer rating, further proving he was a stat compiler and not really that good of a QB.

If he had stayed in New Orleans, yes.

Dude was greedy and you saw it was Drew Brees that made his early career.

First ballot if he retired today? I don’t know. He’s played as many seasons now as Calvin Johnson did, who was first ballot.

Though I’d say it would further make it a shame that Patrick Willis, who played eight seasons vs their nine, still hasn’t been inducted.

Now if Kelsey plays a few more seasons at his current level, then yes.

No way did he deserve the first one. He missed throws all day and they won because of the D line. Strahan and Tuck should have shared the MVP.

Eli would be Lynn Swann, in the Hall for a couple of plays in the Super Bowl.

No one really cares about 1st ballot except maybe the player because nobody remembers when you got in...people in 20 years won't know that it took Jerry Kramer 40 years and a Veteran's committee...once your bust is in Canton, it's in Canton...doesn't matter how you got there.

That's why T.O. was such a bitch, complaining and boycotting the HOF ceremony because he didn't get in on the first ballot. Who gives a shite? Only a narcissist.

Eh…not quite. Lynn Swan made more than just “a couple of plays” in his Super Bowl appearances.

His SB receiving stats:
IX: 0/0/0 (Bradshaw complete 9 passes for 96 yards
X: 4/161/1 (Rest of the team was 4/22/0)
XIII: 7/124/1
XIV: 5/79/1
