Is there a scenario where UConn is ever good at football again?

On a different timeline, where expansion happened on a different schedule, UConn would be in the ACC.

They were excellent at football, basketball and women’s basketball.

Do they no longer care?

Two scenarios.

1) They play UMASS twelve games a year.

2) They bring back Randy Edsall on a very specific performance based contract.

They had one year when a 4-loss Big East champ UConn snuck in to the Fiesta Bowl to get blown out by OU in the final years of the BCS when the Big East at that point was a glorified non-BCS conference. Hard to say they were “good” that year. Though that were obviously miles better than they are now.

They went to the 2011 Fiesta Bowl and then Edsall took the Maryland job and the bottom fell out.

Maybe but their admin doesn’t seem to care

You have a recruiting ace HC and you have a shot to pick off prospect from Jersey, Pennsylvania, etc.

UConn is weird. They are a university without a town smack dab in middle nowhere Connecticut. Football home games are miles away in East Hartford and the bigger men’s & women’s basketball games are played in downtown Hartford.

It will be interesting to see what Mora can do there. He will have NFL and TV credibility

When? Even the year when they made a BCS bowl I'd hardly describe that season as excellent.

FCS or D2?

They can still keep their BB teams at D1; Dallas Baptist is D1 in baseball and D2 in everything else.

Skip had them trending to the upper tier of 1-AA before they moved up

I remember UConn handling a Spurrier coached SC team easily in the Birmingham Bowl

07: 8-5
08: 9-4
09: 8-5
10: 8-5

Good, especially for them. And they didn't jump up to 1A/FBS until 2000.
