To be clear, Ohio State's 31-24 win at Minnesota at Saturday wasn't in a blizzard, though the light snow was steady. And it wasn't all that windy. The biggest adjustment was the cold itself, with Ohio State reporting that the kickoff temperature, announced by Minnesota at 15 degrees, was the coldest for an Ohio State game in 50 years, since the 1964 Michigan game.

When it happens it has a great effect on the game. Obviously it happens more at Minnesota and Wisconsin games.

An 8 game playoff with 1st round being home would settle this debate

I'd be happy with six teams with 1 and 2 getting a bye and 3 and 4 hosting home games.

55-65 degrees is perfect football weather, not 22 degrees and snow nor 98 degrees with a heat index of 115.

people seriously underestimate this... football is played in a larger variety of temperatures and conditions than any other sport. soccer is the only thing that comes close.

but just because they can play it in those conditions, doesn't mean people want to watch it in those conditions.

In all honesty, the Big Ten could go the Ivy League route and give up on big-time football and basketball. I believe that the Ivies and Chicago have no problems with their academic prestige and money since they gave up big time athletics.

Using this years rankings the only cold weather game would be Ohio State at Notre Dame

I love how people pretend like the Big10 and other northern teams play a bunch of games in brutal weather.

The Big10 ended their season in mid-November up until a few seasons ago. OSU complained after back to back big losses to Florida and LSU in NC games in 06 and 07 that they were at a disadvantage because they had nearly 2 months off between their last game and the BCS title game.

Meanwhile, both SEC teams played one more regular season game, plus the SEC Championship game after OSU’s regular season ended.

Now they are claiming they have a long history and plenty of experience playing games in minus 0 degree weather with a foot of snow on the field.

What makes the B1G fans whining about playing the bowls in “the south” even more rich, is it was the fricking Big 10 and PAC 10 that were holding up any kind of playoff because they wanted to play a game against each other in freaking Southern California every year

That was the bowl, not the location.

If we had a tradition over a century old of playing in the Pinstripe Bowl the reaction would have been the same.

If you need confirmation that you're wrong, Peej agreed with you.

And why do you think it started in that location and not say Philadelphia

Of course but why do you think the “tradition” was So Cal and not the “pinstripe Bowl” no one wants to spend NYD in the north

If you had an 8 or 16 team playoff, you would have to play you’d have to play a round or 2 on campus, like FCS, which would be fine, but even if you played everything but the title game on campus, the majority would be in the south.

The problem currently is not the location of the bowls, but as others have pointed out a talent issue. There’s more of it in the south. Ohio State will be fine, they have in state talent and resources. Penn St could step up if they recruit better at home in and the mid Atlantic. Michigan and Notre Dame have the resources to compete at a high level

You serious?

Look up the history of the Rose Bowl or watch a video if that's more your speed.

Because it typically matched up better teams. It wasn't the fricking weather.

The most talented team in the country this year is a northern team.
