While it wasn't a power conference in the 90's/early 2000's, I enjoyed C-USA while we were in it. Loved our games against Cincinnati and Southern Miss. I will always have a soft spot for that league.

To be fair to CUSA a lot of the issues they've had the last decade has been caused by the teams leaving. FAU, UAB, and Marshall have been competitive to exceptional for the better half of that stretch, but USM, ODU, Charlotte, Rice, UTSA, and UNT have been bottom schools outside of a year or two for UTSA and UNT. If CUSA had found a way to shed FIU and UTEP I'd say they made out fairly well all things considered. WKU and MTSU have been average at worst and LTU has had some good runs in FB and MBB during that stretch. Looking back the Belt made the right calls with App, Coastal, and the Georgia schools that have been at or near the top to buoy the Belt to where it is in the pecking order, while CUSA chased markets and had longstanding members turn into shells of themselves. I think SHSU, Jax, Liberty, and Kennesaw all look to be teams with a lot of potential to be for CUSA what the callups were to the Belt a decade ago. I get the NMSU move for UTEP to have a travel partner, and maybe adding them reinvigorates both those fan bases especially on the hardwood. I think it looks rough today, but in 4-5 years CUSA has the potential to be much better off than anyone thought when this realignment started and teams started bolting the conference.

All jokes aside I think it’s a strong upside strong down or type of move from the conference. If those schools commit to it (liberty will for sure and will likely run the conference but I think there’s also potential for them to try to hop on the big boy gravy train before it pulls out of the station) there’s potential for it to turn into a decent conference. If not it’s going to get super ugly though. I think a lot will hinge on sam houston. They could turn into a solid program with the right investments.

I went back at thought through CUSA.

Liberty will be gone to AAC sooner rather than later.

But for now, it looks like CUSA will get stronger in baseball, maybe MBB and maybe football.

CUSA had some dead MCB weight that is now gone.

Yep. So in my mind, they got what they deserved.

Too many Colleges in this country.

They want everyone to go to College, have the Fed government to pay your tuition, to pay the College and then not pay the government back.

Paper mills don't need to be playing sports.

Especially ones basically subsidized by the government.
