I glanced at this thread title while eating and thought it said Brooks Conrad for a split second. About choked on my food.

probably overstated but he would be a lot more well-known if he was a Yankee

Hart is lucky Buck is just making him do a report. He should've just slapped the piss out of him and called it a day

He is pretty well know and he is considered one of the best 3B ever as of now. Him being a more well regarded defensive player than offensive hurts his status more so. He got almost 92% of his HOF vote an was a first ballot which is pretty damn impressive but main thing is the .267 average/.322 OBP//l.401 Slugging and only 268 home runs add to the fact he never hit 30 and only had 2 seasons of 100 RBI. People love offense and the more you produce the better you are remembered.

only 268 home runs
WTF?
"Only" 268 HR in the worst offensive era in baseball history? That's actually pretty great, particularly for a guy whose calling card was defense. In 1971, the year the O's won the AL, only two teams scored 700 runs (and Detroit had 701). The O's led the league with 742. 40 years later, three teams cleared 800. And we won't even get into the 90s, when teams would clear 1000 runs.
Brooks is a better hitter than people give him credit for, mainly because the era he was in was so tilted towards run prevention. From 1962-1971, he had an OPS+ of 117 and he averaged 21 HR per season. He's in for his defense, but he could hit, too.

But were talking about why he isn't considered one of the best and when people see 268 they are not impressed. People aren't concerned about what era he played they are only looking at the numbers.

Hence, why he is underrated. Because people are dumb.

Brooks Robinson is certainly not the most historically underrated player in any sport - I'm not sure why this question was asked: It's 2020, and many people feel that Robinson remains the greatest 3rd baseman of all-time.
Robinson single-handedly changed the way his team was structured, and also single-handedly changed the way opposing teams strategized and played.

Came here to advocate for baseball’s perfect warrior. Baseball’s perfect knight as well.

Ichiro is the most underrated baseball player of my lifetime. Because he wasn't a massive power hitter, he didn't ever get the credit he truly deserved, even though people knew he was really good. Had he started his career here, he may have broken Pete Rose's hits record. He was also terrific defensively.

And Ichiro had power, he chose to hit to get on base. When he switched his swing up to go yard in BP or HR competitions, he had serious pop.
I think if he started in the MLB he'd be considered a top 10 baseball player of all time.

Not a traditionally strong MLB position but I would put Schmidt, George Brett and Chipper Jones ahead of em.

Brooks Robinson is commonly regarded as the best defensive 3rd baseman of all time, but was only a .267/.322/.401 (.723) hitter. His career OPS is not even in the top 1,000 players. His career OPS+ is only 5% better than league average. I would be more inclined to say he is overrated.
IMO, the most underrated MLB player ever is Mel Ott: .304/.414/.533 (.947), 20th in career WAR. Or maybe Harry Heilmann, a .342 career hitter who most fans never even heard of.

He is considered one of the greatest players at his position and the GOAT defensive player at his position. How much higher-rated do you want him to be?
