Is 5A two horse race? Zachary and Westmonroe?

Can anyone else compete with these teams?

I'm sure there are a few teams out there who can, anyone can be beat on a bad night. I would put Destrehan as one that could give them a run. Acadiana usually can compete but seems like they aren't quite their normal self this year.

People keep counting out Terrebonne... just saying. If Keyshawn James can get healthy this team is scary. They can still win without him, but with him they stand a legitimate chance to win it all.

Even though WM gave Ehret their only loss, it was a pretty close game. If WM has to travel, they can knock them off. That defense is ferocious!!

Solid point. Ehret is a really good team as well. I think that 5A is far from a 2 horse race. Probably one of the deeper classes this year as always.

Also, lets see how real East Ascension is tonight before making this generalization. Too many good teams to say just two teams have a shot. They may make it to the title, but the will have to earn it for sure.

ETA: I think Zachary actually had balls though and voted against the split

Terrebonne is a lot like 2014 Ponchatoula. Solid (but not top-tier) program that has everything come together one year. If they want to win, this is the year. It will be hard, because West Monroe is outright ridiculous this year.

Huh? WM was winning 44-13 in the 3rd quarter before pulling the starters. Now Ehret absolutely handed the game over with the worst special teams I've ever seen. The game was not close in any way though.

Link a single time Catholic beat WM. Catholic has benefited more from the split than any other team in the state. That is 100% without question.

Link a time they have played since both programs went through coaching changes.....
Catholic has absolutely been the better program the last 5 years
West Monroe ducked all the private schools by abstaining from voting
Zachary, like I said, had balls

I know Zachary’s beat them in the semis last year, but this WM team is much more versatile now that Slade is gone. They’re better. I hope it comes down to these two again, I’ll be watching whichever stadium it’s at. Percents live in Central, I’m living in West Monroe. I hope it happens.

Do you really believe that though in your heart? They definitely have more accolades. Look at all the times they played each other in the past. You think Catholic just magically got better or do you think WM is just a terrible matchup for you? Some teams just don't matchup well. WM's lines dominated Catholic EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I don't see how that would've changed.
Just like Evangel was always a terrible matchup with WM. If they played now, I'm sure Evangel would still give WM fits.

Do they have massive lines and maul you or do they run a spread and rely on speed? It's not the same matchup so honestly it really means nothing when discussing a Catholic vs WM matchup.

I think west Monroe has clearly taken a pretty sizable step back from the 90s- early 2000s
I think that is fairly obvious. And the game has also changed as well which has greatly benefited Catholic and the type of athletes they get
Trying to compare the old wm/Catholic matchups to today is just silly

I view them more as East Jeff 2013, which is a similar comprison to what you are making. East Jeff’s secondary was incredible and had a ton of talent. Reminds me of Terrebonne’s skill players. Douglass is a 4.40 type kid who is a freak when in open field, Chaz Ward is a power back that is damn hard to bring down and the work horse, and Keyshawn James who has the least noteriety but is easily the best playmaker on their team. That isn’t including the talent at wide outs which are all about 6’3 including Dejon Scott and Anthony Ruffin. Their defense is no slouch either.
Truth be told though, we will truly know how good they are come week 10 and if they stand a chance against a damn good Destrehan team which has the best back in the nation and failed to be mentioned in this thread.

I thought WM dominated them?
