What record does Marino still have?

I meant his passing yards, which i know is not a record. He'd be second only to Favre.

Brett's backup in his prime is better than Brett in his prime.

This doesn't make Favre overrated. Nobody claims Favre is the best QB of all time. But people say that about Montana All. The. Time.

Well this is dumb because every qb gets that benefit. Name a current big time qb who doesn't dink and dunk these.

Rice gets more than everybody else.

Still doesn't mean Young or Montana are overrated. You can't say they weren't some of the best just because they played with the best receiver of all time.

I doubt any of the guys saying this are old enough to remember Steve Young from 91-97. Jerry Rice was an old receiver at the back end of those prime Steve Young years. Young threw a very good deep ball and they used to use John Taylor to stretch the field.

Well that's because you can easily make a case for Montana being the greatest.

And I can make a case for him not being as good as his backup. And if he wasn't as good as his backup, then he wasn't the greatest.

I think Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the game today but that's really hard to prove.

An old arse Favre put up a 107 QB rating (a personal high) the second to last year of his career - and he was nowhere near the QB then that he was in the later 90s (when he was ridiculously good)

The numbers for today's QBs are just ridiculous when they make Matt Schaub look like Dan Fouts

Sure you can. I don't personally think Young was better, but I can see your point. I mean, I guess when I hear overrated I think severely overrated. Not necessarily moving from number 1 to number 3-5 or something.

Kinda hard to compare a guy who has played for 15 years to a guy starting his first season.

I'm no NFL historian but I'd bet the consensus would be Joe Namath with some people saying Favre.

Namath is in the Professional Football Hall of Fame. While his career statistics are not exceptional (e.g.: Career passing percentage 50.1, QB rating 65.5, 50 more interceptions than TD's), Namath was the game's first true media superstar and Namath was the first quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards during the 14-game 1967 season. This feat was not to be achieved again until Dan Fouts topped 4,000 yards during the 1979 season in a 16-game season. Namath threw for 4,000 yards under old rules that gave much less protection to both the quarterback and receivers. Namath's play on the field in the years before his knees seriously limited his mobility helped evolve the quarterback position and the NFL style of play from a run-oriented ball control game to today's more open passing style. Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh stated that Namath was "the most beautiful, accurate, stylish passer with the quickest release I've ever seen." Hall of Fame coach Don Shula stated that Namath was "one of the 3 smartest quarterbacks of all time."

I'll disagree with Aikman. He was a great QB IMO. His accuracy was great and he was a good leader. I think in a more pass happy offense he would have put up some huge numbers.

Id go with Favre.

Marino had the greatest release I ever saw. But there is an NFL Films clip where Namath flicks his wrist and completes a TD.

Dan Fouts. Despite his big numbers he never won a game that really mattered. And the excuse of having no running or defense doesn't apply as his teams had both during his career.
