Why do they keep talking about this guy. He was a great player and totally disrespected his sport and should never be in the HOF.

The guy is a fricking idiot. Have any of you ever seen an interview with this fricking mouthbreather? He makes Bradshaw look like a Physics teacher.

Move on, let it go Petey, you fricked up and it's over. If he ever gets in he will be dead before it happens.

What a loser this guy is, get a fricking life!

Rose is actually getting more publicity and more money by being excluded from being the Baseball HOF. He should be in the HOF and not be allowed to ever be associated with a MLB team ever again.

Do you know how many great athletes were borderline retarded?

That's quite possible. He comes across as such a stupid, whiny, self-absorbed and unlikeable person that it's hard to believe he would be on TV so often if it weren't for the controversy.

I'd have more sympathy for him if he came across as a nicer guy and less of an aging douchebag.

I heard a sports talk host one time say something to the effect that during the slow summer days of sport, the thing to do is bring up wether Pete Rose should be in the HOF, how to make baseball better and two or three other topics.

definitely should be in the HOF and the reason they are talking about him is because it is the anniversary of him breaking the all time hits record

Exactly. If he gets in, the book deals and interview requests go away.

My opinion has been that he should be in the Hall of Fame as a player (I think he earned that), but he should be banned from working for or managing another MLB for the rest of his life, including the minor leagues. In other words, the most he could do is show up to watch a game in the stands like any other fan.

so what did he actually admit to? that he bet on his team to win while he was a player/manager of the reds? he never actually bet against his team or fixed any games, correct?

I remember when Rose came up as a rookie. The difference between Rose and other players with more talent was that he sustained a drive to play every day at full speed.
Most people reach a point of burning out in their careers. Especially if you make a lot of money. He didn't burn out. I think a lot of that comes from him being stupid. Retarded people never get tired of doing the same thing every day for 20 years.
I worked in the same job for 30 years. I guarantee you that I worked harder in the first 10 than the last 10. It's human nature.

Correct. He ALWAYS bet on his team to win. I would feel way different if he was betting against them and intentionally throwing games. He should be in the HOF as a player.

agreed. and i was under the impression a bunch of players do this in every sport. don't football player bet against each other on the same team who will have more tds, tackles, sacks, etc? whats the difference between that and betting that you win the game. i know i'm in the minority, but i think players should be able to bet on their team. makes it more interesting

What up, dew? I agree, but not in the way most think. The Baseball HOF is a museum, and baseball not having the all-time hits leader in its museum is a disservice to the game. Pete Rose should be in the HOF with a plaque describing his playing career then describing his role in gambling on baseball.

no doubt. if there was an award for the hardest working player, he'd win it

I can understand him not being allowed anywhere near the sport, because what he did with regard to gambling was against the rules. However, his career numbers are worthy of the HoF, and nothing he has been accused of doing or admitted to doing had an impact on the numbers he put up.

I think he should be in, but if he isn't and never is I have no issue with that. What pisses me off are people who don't care or don't want him in because he was banned from baseball for gambling, yet have no problem with the potential inclusion in the Hall and the perpetual inclusion of numbers/records by players who knowingly took steroids or other PEDs to make their numbers better.

If Rose isn't in the Hall because he bet on games, no way in hell should Bonds, Clemens, ARod,etc. ever go in. And none of this bullshite about "everyone was doing it". So what? I bet Rose wasn't the only one betting on games either, and his betting on games didn't impact the outcome of games like a roided up slugger hitting homers did.
