agreed. and i was under the impression a bunch of players do this in every sport. don't football player bet against each other on the same team who will have more tds, tackles, sacks, etc? whats the difference between that and betting that you win the game. i know i'm in the minority, but i think players should be able to bet on their team. makes it more interesting
the major reason not to do it is that you might lose your bets
if you owe big money to a bookie they have the leverage over you to make you throw a game

If Rose isn't in the Hall because he bet on games, no way in hell should Bonds, Clemens, ARod,etc. ever go in. And none of this bull shite about "everyone was doing it". So what? I bet Rose wasn't the only one betting on games either, and his betting on games didn't impact the outcome of games like a roided up slugger hitting homers did.
Se this is the problem. How do you decide who goes and who stays from the steroid area? No one goes, or just the guys who got caught don't go, or guys reasonable suspected don't go, etc? Same with Rose, surely he is not the only player to bet on baseball, just perhaps, the most famous.

I'm not, belongs in Hall of Fame.
Gave it 110% on the field.
Played the game hard pre steroid era.
Players in Hall of Fame have done far worse not to mention the drug abusers in there for life.

Why do they keep talking about this guy
September 11th marks the 25 year anniversary of him breaking the all-time hits record. That was a pretty big deal when it happened. And, the Reds are having a big ceremony at the ballpark for him to celebrate it.
That might have a little to do with it.
