In basketball it is such a gay arse move to base your fanhood on the best player in the world because what no matter who he plays for they will never be bad.

some people don't grasp that. One of my good friends is that same way. Saying ive been on the Lebron wagon since i saw him in the HS all american game. Really way to go out on a limb picking to be the fan of a once in a generation player and jumping teams with him.

How shocking that you'd keep this thread alive.

First off, if you've been a lebron fan since he came into the league you've definitely dealt with some bad seasons. Being a lebron fan in 2010 was a pretty thinly populated bandwagon.

lulz no it wasn't all the cavs fans are now heat fans

Not really. The hornets had just moved to Nola when lebron came into the league. They had no history, not a big media presence, they were and are way below the saints in the local conscience. As a 11-12 year old kid who wasn't even from nola they might as well not have existed so, i basically had to pick a random team to follow. I decided just to root for lebron and whatever team he played for.

EPL team is Arsenal. Which I know is still a big 6 club but they haven't won anything since I've been a fan. Plus it's stupid IMO to choose a non top 6 club, there's just no point

then why a jab about being a man united fan. Im in my late 20's and have been fan since i was around 9. All we had on tv was espn 2 showing champions league back the. I didn't want to support a spanish or german side so from an english standpoint it was united, liverpool, arsenal or chelsea. Once i got fox sports world it was easy to follow the EPL and Arsenal was wrecking shite then. Ive also been to a game at old trafford.

That's awesome closest I've come to highbury or the emirates was buying a knockoff Henry jersey from a street vendor in London.

I'm just saying I don't see how you choosing united is any different than someone like me choosing to follow lebron. Closest tie i had to any NBA franchise was a team had just moved to a city two hours from where I lived. No one i knew was a big fan, my parents werent big fans, they weren't on tv so basically it was which big time player a team do I become a fan of: lebron, Kobe, shaq/wade, melo, spurs with duncan, pistons?

Those were the teams and players on tv back then. Just like Man U was good in the mid 90's but not yet the juggernaut they are now, lebron was super hyped in 03 but it was far from a certainty he'd become the juggernaut he is now.

i just don't see the point in going from team to team. I have a friend who does that with CR7 and now talks shite on a team he used to support

NBA coverage compared to EPL is still apples to oranges.

One way of looking at it is a team is just laundry. You're rooting for uniforms. Doesn't it make more sense to actually root for the flesh and blood person wearing the uniform?

Understand, this is only if you're forced to arbitrarily pick someone or something to support, if you're born into a family or city with a storied franchise you're rooting for much more than laundry.

I always wished Miami well in all sports. Rooted for them during the Finals with Shaq. I will wish them well again once Lebron leaves.
I am a Pelicans fan, and not that he ever would(thank god), but if Lebron came to NOLA, I would be a Grizz fan till he left.

I've been a Hornets/Pelicans fan since they moved to NOLA, but Lebron has always been one of my favorite players. So as long as he's not playing the Pelicans, I see no problem with rooting for him and his team.

Just to flip it around, though: Why is it that so many people genuinely hate the Heat? Isn't it just because Lebron and Bosh went there in 2010? You probably didn't have strong feelings toward the Heat before then.

So if someone can hate a team because players went there, why is it so wrong for someone to like that team when those players go there?

I wonder if anyone liked them pre pat Riley and Shaq. Those are your true heat fans . Like cowgirl fans I will obviously exclude those are from Texas or perhaps Arkansas or okla and heat fans that are from or reside in Florida .
