DC United went to games all the time and saw them win the 97 MLS cup in person

The point is you picked one of the best teams in Europe to like. Your favorite team is the Yankees of English Football. How do you possibly view that as different than being a fan of the Lakers, Heat, Yankees, Braves, Red Wings, Duke, et al?
its no different than liking liverpool, barca, mardid, bayern, chelsea, arsenal etc
so no its not a boom
Why is it okay to like one of the best foreign teams, but not one of the best domestic teams? These concepts are the same.

Not a particular team NBA fan, but like to watch Gold State and Lebron play the game. I also watched MJ, was not a Bulls fan.

unless you follow european soccer you really can't grasp the concept. Its apples to oranges comparing it to american sports when the avalabilty of the NBA trumps soccer esp 15+ years ago when i became a fan.

lots of people here in europe love the main american teams that win in all sports and stick with them. Plenty of bandwagon fans stick with their team and don't go jumping team to team.

The concept is just silly. I'll never understand why people put so much energy into caring what other people care about, especially as it relates to sports. They aren't even important in any real world sense. Some people feel an emotional attachment to a club. Others feel that attachment to players. Why is that wrong? Why is one better than the other? Why try to put a negative connotation on one, especially in era of extreme player movement. 15+ years ago emotional attachment to teams and players basically overlapped. Today that's not the case. I really think we should get over it.

6 english games a week on american tv is now readily available and thats if you have FSC. btw we are not the yankees of English soccer when it comes to spending money
Im to lazy to look it up but Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool have all spent more in the premiership era.

i think it comes down to people getting annoyed and frustrated by fans who talk shite to them when they are jumping around for titles while they stay with their one team through thick and thin.

I lived in Miami for a bit. The only team I really became a fan of was the Marlins.

Dude I don't think you get it. Most of us aren't jumping teams. I don't give a shite about the Heat franchise. Lebron just happens to play for them right now.
I don't understand how y'all can't see that basketball is different. Andrew Jones is my favorite baseball player. Well he's have to have a pretty epic game to "take a game over." Hell most of the time he's getting out. I can't tune in every night and see him "ball out." It's almost like I just like the idea of Andrew Jones.
What is my favorite football player is Percy Harvin and he has no target for a game? Well frick I'd go damn near two weeks without seeing him make a catch.
Basketball is SO different. Lebron is usually THE reason for a win or almost losing or a lose or anything. He's the damn team. It's not like we all turned into Yankee fans because signed Nick Swisher.
Lastly...Lebron attracts more hate than most teams all by himself. And most of it for THE dumbest reasons iv ever heard. It's like when I flip on MSNBC. I'm gonna make damn sure I'm not on THAT side of the isle. The potential for him to be the best ever and the hate he garnered made me a fan. If wanted him to be the best since the day he stepped foot in the league and ill keep following him.
the end

its not, pick a team and stick with it. I still like players but i don't gloat and boast like thats my team when they win.
I have a friend. Who was an AI fan and now Lebron fan. So he has been a sixers, nuggest, cavs and heat fan all in the span of ten years and owns shite from all those teams and would rep them like he had been a fan for years saying my heat blah blah blah. Then just mocks wizards fans with keep cheering for your shitty team i like winners

I never really got into sports until around 2005-2006.
At the time espn was talking about the nfl draft and how electric Reggie bush was. I instantly became a fan of his. Then he happened to go to the Saints an thus I became a fan of the saints ever since that point. Im also a Yankee fan, since I was born in New York and most of my family are fans as well. I currently live in Florida though, so I became a fan of the Heat since the 2006 season when they won the Championship with Shaq and Wade.
