Lulz at comparing the saints Super Bowl to any team winning an nba championship.

Same concept. Football and basketball are team games. The person that changes their favorite team will never enjoy a championship the same way a lifelong of one team will. I don't care if it's football, basketball or single A baseball.

Not really. Most NFL and many MLB teams are way more engrained in communities' identities than NBA teams. For example, people were suicidal when the dodgers left Brooklyn and when the colts left Baltimore. Nobody gave a shite when the hornets left Charlotte or when the lakers left Minnesota.

Will it make your life complete if/when the pelicans win it all?

As a casual NBA fan, I'd rather root for short term success than long term mediocrity.

I ain't gonna hate on ya man. You like Lebron and the teams he plays on. The only thing it sounds like you're guilty of is being an Lebron groupie.

This is a whole other topic, but this is because the average NBA fan is far younger than MLB and NFL fans and more likely to be listed as casual than passionate about their fandom.

But it doesn't change the fact that a diehard Golden State fan of 30 years will enjoy seeing his team win a championship than a casual Heat fan who will be rooting for LA in three years, then back to the Bulls or whomever is winning the most games three years after that. That's the point I'm making.

And yeah, I think it's pretty ridiculous for a bandwagon Heat fan to brag about their team's (for the moment) greatness over another's team.

I have a co-worker whose favorite teams are Duke basketball, the NY Yankees, Oregon football, the Miami Heat and the 49ers/Broncos in the NFL. When he tries to talk any shite whatsoever regarding sports, the rest of the office shuts him down.

I think it probably stems from the feeling that the NBA seems a bit more fluid as far as both player and even franchise movement. Most of the teams don't have deep roots. There are a few NBA franchises where fans would jump off a bridge if the team left today (the Lakers) but its way less static than the NFL or MLB and probably attracts way more bandwagon or casual (or hip hop culture) fans.

But that dude you work with talking shite would be annoying as frick.

Me. Been a fan since 2011 because ESPN said they're good. I abandoned my home state team.

BTW who do we play next?

I'd have to disagree here. I think it depends on the city. Golden State, Memphis, and OKC love their teams and would be devastated if they left.

Like the guy said earlier for someone who is a LeBron fan not winning a championship is seen as a failure.

As a Grizzlies fan who watched us either get swept every year or just miss the playoffs. When we beat San Antonio 2 years ago people acted like we had just won the championship.

As a fan of a small market team you know the chances of your team ever winning a championship are very slim, so the pay off of seeing your favorite team finally break through is an awesome feeling.

LeBron. Is there any other reason? When he's gone I won't care anymore.

Good points. I also think the fact that NBA players are more visible (no helmets, face masks, shields, etc) to their fans means a closer and stronger identity to the individual player over the team. Plus, the NBA heavily markets their stars while MLB and the NFL puts a greater emphasis on team. These concepts bleed over to the fan experience, too.

Memphis, and OKC

Nobody cares about small towns like OKC and Memphis. Plus there isn't shite else to do in those towns. Somehow, I think Golden State would get over it because they would get a new franchise, like the cleveland and indy did in the NFL. The NBA is more fluid than MLB or the NFL. The NBA is more like the NHL in that regard.
