Golf. Five years as the GOAT is plenty of time to win enough to sucker Nike into giving me some 200 million dollar endorsement deal.
After five years and one day, my reborn suckiness is their problem.

1. Golf - Not a big golf fan, but it seems like you can earn money faster and get noticed going this route by proving yourself in qualifying tourneys.
2. Soccer - Starting at the MLS, you can probably get noticed by a bigger club and transfer to a European team. Once transferred, you get a new contract. Great worldwide endorsement opportunities.
3. Football - Make team via tryouts. After four years, you become an unrestricted free agent. Sign big contract with big signing bonus(signing bonus is important since you'll be cut after your 6th year).
4. Basketball - First four years you are under a rookie contract and fifth year you can be a restricted free agent. If you can get noticed quickly enough, you might be able to go through your rookie contract and sign for big money before your skills fall off the cliff.
5. Baseball - People are saying baseball, but the team usually has you under control for six years so you'll never make it to your free agency years to get the big contract.
LINK
6. Track - Probably easiest to break in because the clock doesn't lie.
7. F1 - Salaries are probably the best, but getting noticed would be difficult without connections as results are a combination of skills and equipment. When skills fall of the cliff, you are in danger of killing yourself.
N/A. NHL - Don't know free agency rules to make a consideration.

I would pick soccer just because I love it and think it'd be the most fun, since you'd play in Europe with badass international players. But it definitely isn't the smartest if you're just trying to rack up cash.

I think this only applies if you are drafted by the team. I know Chinese/Japanese players have made bank on their initial contracts, I'm not sure how this hypothetical scenario would work. Would you get drafted and get a mediocre contract for years 1-6 or would you enter as a free agent and get a bidding war?
ETA i guess chinese players get to bypass the draft bc technically they were in China's developmental league so they have already done the draft/minor league in a way...

Forbes 100 highest paid atheletes
30 million a year in endorsements alone and 8 spots away at best from GOAT. After 5 years of domination on tour easily make that number $50M for a good 5-7 years after losing superpowers. Then I write a book and take the Bob Uecker route.

This is why golf may not be the best. There's not a lot of guaranteed money in endorsements. When you start sucking horribly the money will be gone in 6 months. With a team sport, you have just signed a 7 year contract with the Yankees.

Assuming GOAT skills, I do not think it is a reach to say that 4 out of 5 years you will at the very least equal what Tiger was making in his prime (which was over 100mil/year).
400mil in a 5 year span (which I think is low-balling) would be higher than anything baseball would give you.
ETA I still think boxing is the way to go. Pacquiao/Mayweather are already the top paid athletes, imagine what someone who was the GOAT would make in today's age.

wouldn't matter if you were the best boxer in the world though, you would never be able to get on the stage with floyd, and even if you did, he would never fight you.
Also, how many in this thread could make Flyods weight? I would be fighting one of the Russian twins over seas best case scenario, win the heavyweight belt and have basically no one give a frick

not to mention, you are signing up to get your arse beat (youd still win). why do this when you can play golf or basketball?
we could take this thread to the next level and say "you are granted GOAT skills" means nothing more than the physical skill st. that's probably not enough to make you better than guys like mayweather who know the game and all that shite. if we do that, soccer and basketball are the only ones i could do because i actually have enough knowledge and bball/soccer IQ to utilize my skills.

If the choice is 400 million swinging a club at some of the most beautiful places on earth, doing a light workout/cardio, vs 500 million for getting the punched in the head/body repeatedly while training like an idiot, I pick golf.

notice how much more $$$$ tiger was hauling in than anyone else, if the dude doesnt get slammed in the head with a 9 iron and wrap his caddy around a tree, hes probably in the 130 range today.

Golf is the best answer because of ease of entry. How do you get a tryout with an NBA team, right now? I have no idea, especially if I'm some guy off the street. But golf? Sign up for a US Open qualifier. Make the Open. Win. Now you're on the Tour. You could go from zero to pro golfer in the span of a few months. There is almost no barrier to entry. No tryouts, no nothing. Just find a qualifier and win it.
