re: If Tiger had an ounce of integrity he would DQ himself from the Masters

The tables are turned as Tiger is now the one who is screwed. If he plays and wins, he actually loses because throughout history the victory will be questioned. If he withdraws, he obviously can't win another major.

What people are saying is irrelevant.

Everyone being like they told him at the scoring table he was ok is ignoring one thing....
They didn't have tiger's statements regarding his drop.

so wait let me get this right
tiger fricks up
tiger gets assessed a 2-stroke penalty, which is the punishment for the error
now, people want tiger to withdraw?
he was already punished

Punishment for signing an incorrect scorecard is DQ.

was he assessed the penalty after he turned in the scorecard?

The question is not whether he should have been penalized or not. The question is whether he should have been DQ'd. The new rule was put into place to address a situation like this. You don't have to agree with the rule but it's the rule and they followed it.

I am disappointed with the way the Masters have handled this and with the way Tiger has handled this .. I am done with watching this event this year .. See you in 2014

Different interpretation and ruling of an older rule kept him from being DQ'd. People think that this ruling happened just because it was Tiger.

I'm confused as to how he thought changing the angle of the shot would be legal? I just started golfing so I know almost no rules but shouldn't it be obvious that what he did was illegal?

He signed the correct scorecard as stated by the rules committee at the time of the end of his round....

But but but....
The integrity of the game????
All these posters would without a doubt withdraw if they found themselves in this same situation. Why shouldn't Tiger?

The problem is that he knew he dropped it two yards back, per his interview.

False.
It's waived if you shouldn't or couldn't reasonably know you had violated a rule.
Common examples include a double hit or slightly grounding your club in the sand in the bunker...both picked up on super slo mo HDTV.
Ignorance of where to drop a ball after a hazard shouldn't be a valid excuse. That's not why Rule 33 was changed to its current state.

Dude, call the PGA immediately. There's been penalties assesed by fans seeing fouls on TV and alerting the PGA before.
frick Tiger.

Why would golf make a rule to protect someone who intentionally manipulated a rule for an advantage...
The rule makes more sense to protect those who unknowingly broke a rule not seeking an advantage but was seen after the fact...
Tiger admitted he broke the rule to seek an advantage.

They changed the rule for fouls called in by viewers, that the player and officials were not aware of at the time they signed the card.
He got dinged 2 shots. If he wins, it's a deserved win

The examples to rule 33 list some examples....the examples are all based on things super slo mo HDTV pick up that a golfer in real time couldn't have known.
Where you drop a ball is not one of those.
