I'm confused as to how he thought changing the angle of the shot would be legal?

He didn't change the angle of the shot

He was back from his previous spot by 2 yards...

so wait let me get this right

tiger fricks up

tiger gets assessed a 2-stroke penalty, which is the punishment for the error

now, people want tiger to withdraw?

he was already punished
Exactly.

If they DQ'd him, the same people would then demand his tour card. If they did that, they'd want him sued.

Some guys just have an irrational hate of the guy, because he is so much better than the established (or establishment) golf heroes.

The question is not whether he should have been penalized or not. The question is whether he should have been DQ'd. The new rule was put into place to address a situation like this. You don't have to agree with the rule but it's the rule and they followed it.

They changed to rules for super slow mo HDTV findings, that a reasonable golfer couldn't have found out. Go read the examples to rule 33 and the circumstances around enacting it.

The problem is that he knew he dropped it two yards back, per his interview.

So Tiger knowingly did something against the rules, then admitted to knowingly breaking the rules just to see if they had the balls to DQ him. Damn Tiger is a beast.

Tiger to the USGA, Masters, PGA. Golf

Tiger didn't know what he did was wrong. That doesn't mean that he shouldn't have reasonably known what he did was wrong.

It was a blatant violation of the hazard drop rule. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse, or shouldn't be.

No shite, if he knew he broke the rules, why would he bring it up

But secondly, the rules committee looked at the video and ruled that he was within a reasonable distance.... Then Tiger says that he was 5-6ft back.... They look at the video again and all of a sudden, it looks further than it did the first time they reviewed the footage

Ok, changed the distance on his shot then. How could he possibly think he could do that?

because you can come as far back as you want in line with the pin and where the ball entered, I think he didn't realize where the ball entered

By 5-6 ft.... Which the rules committee said "Was within a reasonable distance" when they first reviewed it

Exactly. Just looking at the video committee says ok based on ANAP.

then tiger says in interview oh I didn't do ANAP, I moved it back so I wouldn't hit flag.

Somehow tiger avoids DQ because committee first ruling based on ANAP when the golfer himself admits after the round he didn't apply ANAP...

Everyone being like they told him at the scoring table he was ok is ignoring one thing....

They didn't have tiger's statements regarding his drop.

Tiger's words betray him. My guess is that a yard or so behind the original divot the grass was more down-grain and favorable to hitting the shot without it spinning too much. That was his advantage and his words indicate intent which is clearly a violation of the rules.

This is the dumbest shite I think I have ever heard of in sports.

Fix the fricking rule so it is clear and can be understood and applied correctly.

You can bet your arse, EVERY single player is going to double and triple check with rules officials before they take a drop or sign their scorecards from now on.

Look I'm not gonna argue with you because you have given rational arguments to why Tiger should be DQ'd and I promise you know more about the game than I do, I watch all the Majors + a few other tournaments a year but I never played the game competitively and do not know all the specific rules the way they are written in the rulebook.

I do however have a problem with some of those spewing their hate in here, and I admittingly root against Tiger.

They told him he was fine prior to the end of his round.
