Why not just let the players ref themselves and not worry about paying officials. They missed the call.

They do. Tiger missed the call. He didn't ask for an official to give him a ruling. It's not the officials job to offer him a ruling if he doesn't ask either.

If the committee penalizes him on this legal drop, this would be the defining story of this masters.

2013 Masters will have the asterisk.

Someone wants to DQ him over 2 yards? This is when you know someone either takes himself or the game too seriously.

They take the rules like the bible. Hell a 14 year old on a windy day got stroked on slow play.

And if they don't penalize him and he wins there will always be an asterisk. He better win 20 majors because this one will not be acknowledged. This is coming from someone who pulls for him every time he enters the field.

I know it's a subjective rule but what prevented Tiger from playing the ball closer to his original drop?

No they don't. It's nearest point. That was not nearest point. It's clearly defined.

. That is the worst written rule I have ever seen. All tiger would have to say is I went two yards back because I was on a down slope and I knew the ball couldn't roll closer to the hole then I originally hit so I went "as near as possible"

No way. He is striving to beat Jacks major record and he won't DQ himself in a major he has a chance to win.

The likelihood that his drop will fall into the divot.

You guys either need to open a rule book or learn how golf is played if you're going to try to give an educated opinion.
