Henderson is a better offensive player than Rose even before accounting for his baserunning.

learn something new everyday.
I didn't realize how little Ichiro walked. I assumed he would have easily been a .400 OBP guy given his batting averages, but even if you isolate his numbers to his first 10 years in the league, he only had a .365-.370 average OBP.

Rickey was on the juice IMO.

Rickey was the best at getting on base and the best at doing something once he was there.
GOAT lead-off.
ETA:
And I love Ichiro. Damn shame he didn't have his entire career in the MLB.

Henderson .401 career obp%
Ichiro.355
Ichiro had one season of .400 or above OBP
Henderson maintained that number over a 25 year career
Doesn't Rickey hold the record for most lead off homers?

slapping singles is not the greatest leadoff hitter of all-time, especially when the real greatest leadoff hitter of all-time would be on fricking 2nd base instead of 1st with no outs either by a double or a steal. Everyone who watched the game, minus Bill James tards, knows this.
I assume you are talking about Rickey? And if so, are you contending that Bill James and analytically inclined folks wouldn’t value Rickey?

Should've been. His ego wouldn't let him walk.

Not sure it was ego. I think it was just more of a slashing style that he brought over from Japan. Guy was elite at putting the bat on the ball & had like 3.6 speed home to first

Ichiro was said to have had some legendary BP by teammates with hitting homers in practice.
I remember some players wanting him in the Homerun Derby and saying he would be the favorite among players.
I don’t have evidence to back that up but I’m sure there is a link or two somewhere quoting teammates. But I absolutely 100% remember hearing players say that.

a few weeks into Henderson’s stint with the Mariners, he walked up to Olerud at the batting cage and asked him why he wore a batting helmet in the field. Olerud explained that he had an aneurysm at nine years old and he wore the helmet for protection. Legend goes that Henderson said, “Yeah, I used to play with a guy that had the same thing.” Legend also goes that Olerud said, “That was me, Rickey.” Henderson played with Olerud on the Blue Jays and the Mets.

In the early 1980s, the Oakland A’s accounting department was freaking out. The books were off $1 million. After an investigation, it was determined Rickey was the reason why. The GM asked him about a $1 million bonus he had received and Rickey said instead of cashing it, he framed it and hung it on a wall at his house.

Lol. I know very little about Rickey Henderson, but judging from these post it seems he is a selfish, conceited dumbass. That about right?
These stories are ridiculous. He talks in third person?

Well yeah. He was a pro baseball player.

But he was a GREAT baseball player. Back then I bet if you asked any GM who they wanted as their leadoff hitter they would all say Ricky.
