Just looking at some of the SEC refs I think they may.

I think they had to rearrange lots of games this season to week nights and saturdays due to referee shortage, so....

I need some extra money. I lost my 2004 Corolla taking betting advice from Ott.

Not in the day. They may now. I know there were plenty asking or bailing. Most did for why you want to. It's a fun hobby.

Come aboard. I know you're in a different state but there is a shortage of officials nationwide.

Here in Georgia you have to take an online rules clinic, rules test(84 is passing), and attend a camp every year. After 5 years of doing all of the above, you become certified and can work past the 2nd round. I've been on field for the 2nd round the last 2 years and hopefully that streak continues next week. I'm the #2 SJ in my association. This is my 13th year doing football. This coming spring will be my 20th baseball season. I'm 39.

My association waves the registration fee for first year officials. And then they take it out of our check every year after that.

Do it. I umpired baseball and softball for 25 years. I played for so long I was just used to going the ballpark. It’s a selfless gesture that will be appreciated by many and hated by a few dick parents

I wonder what types of clinics and training they have for 1st timer refs. Obviously it’s much harder to see everything in real time compared to when I’m watching at home

Just don't bring a binocular to a game as a ref!

Every person on this board should ref a sport.

Its eye opening how easy it is to miss a call.

Better than reffing basketball as the fans aren’t so close to you. Wouldn’t be as easy to hear them yelling dumb shite

My son just finished his senior season as well, and I've thought about it. I enjoy watching games too much though, and think I'll just run the chains next year for our school.

WPB, are you from Winn Parish by chance?

Here is an article from a couple of years ago where they talked to several longtime LA HS refs about their experience. LINK

Football if you the line judge you may get bitched at more than others but it wont be that bad. I did chain crew for years, mostly downbox. Maybe 5% of coaches are dicks.

Baseball gets the most flax

Volleyball gets the least amount.

Great side money especially if you do Jr High games and bantam. I knew one guy who did Jr. High During the week, Prep on Thur-Fri Bantam on Sat Morning and chain crew for Nicholls. He said he made about $4500-5000 for the football season.

I did football and basketball through my 20s. Made some lifelong friends and had some great experiences (worked a D1 boys state final in basketball) but the money wasn't worth all the time and commitments to travel, abuse from low IQ fans and local and state meetings.
If you are young or your kids are out of the house i say go for it!

Man, more people need to do this. Some of the officials are just rouuuuuuugh and others are getting to old.
