I think Draymond is an idiot but he has a decent point about Steph GOAT convo

In lieu of Steph hitting 4000 3’s I thought I’d bring it up. On his podcast the other day Draymond said Steph belongs in the GOAT convo

I think he makes a compelling point, the entire game of basketball, down to the youth level, has changed because of Steph. The types of shots that are now considered quality, the way guys train, the style of the game has been transformed and he’s the catalyst. There is a great argument that it hasn’t changed for the better because while Steph makes those shots quality for his team, most people shouldn’t be taking them, but it’s definitely changed.
Basically the argument is that even if he isn’t as good in a vacuum as some of the other GOAT type players, he has fundamentally changed the way the game is played more than most of the other GOAT types, and because of that he at least belongs in the discussion.
Here is his argument in his own words

He 100 percent is in that [GOAT] conversation,” Green said on Wednesday’s episode of “The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis.” “When you talk about what he does on the basketball court, with all due respect to LeBron James, with all due respect to Michael Jordan, there’s no one in the history of the NBA that has been schemed against and guarded the way Steph Curry is guarded. I’ve played in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers and got wide-open layups, dunks and transitions because he’s running on the wing, and they’d rather go run and take the three away from him on the wing and give me a dunk.
“Still to this day, he’s in Year 16, [and] teams still throw three of four defenders at him on a given possession. Everything is designed to try to take this guy away. The way the game of basketball is played is because of Steph Curry. You tell me the game of basketball is modeled after how you play because you are special, after, everybody thought, ‘Yo, that’s what we need to do.’ And you’re telling me that guy don’t go in the GOAT conversation?”

Shaq says it almost every night on Inside the NBA as well.

Its been an honor being able to watch him and he is the rare good role model.
Love Steph.
Love Steph.

I wasn’t a fan for a long time but still respected how talented he is.
Then came the Olympics. He showed out for team USA. Hard not to root for him now. He belongs in the conversation. MJ still 1a in my house.

i will just say that if the Dubs win it all this year, and i think they just might be capable of doing so, then boy oh boy, the GOAT conversations start to become hard to ignore for his case.

It's a very fair point. The game has drastically changed because of him

Would be impossible to leave him out of the top 5 conversation at worst if they can pull that off.

Let's set the record straight.
Any candidate to be the "NBA GOAT" must have, at a bare minimum, a 6-0 NBA Finals record.
Once that hurdle is cleared, then I am open to any candidates.

MJ is undoubtedly #1, and if we're being honest, LeBron is #2.
Kareem probably third but there's definitely an argument for Steph ahead of him.

Just stop
They wrote books about defending Jordon and changed the rules due to him being beat up. Steph is a great player no doubt but that is a bit much.

Lebron is the GOAT.
Insane anyone disagrees.
Steph has not demonstrated that he’s better or more valuable than LeBron. Not to mention LeBron is the GOAT at being physically capable of playing in any era. There’s never been someone better suited to dominate every era.

People consider MJ the goat because the second best superstar in the mid 90’s in their prime was a fringe top 15-20 player.
Magic had Bird
Shaq and Kobe had Duncan
James had Duncan, Curry and Durant
MJ beat an almost retired Magic, and then some fringe top 20 players.

Steph gets a goat thread after an 11pt game where he was carried by Draymond
Remember that year when Steph played like 60 something games in his prime and missed the playoffs.

Steph as a GOAT candidate is a wild take, surprised so many people here seem to agree with it. Any credible analyst or publication covering the NBA has him somewhere between 8th-15th all time which feels right.
The warriors as title contenders this year is also pretty wild. It would be historically unprecedented for a large number of reasons:
Only 1 team in NBA history has won a title from the 5 seed or lower. No team has ever won from lower than 5th. Warriors are fighting to hold the 6th seed right now with the Wolves hot on their heels.
Their 3 best players are all 35 or older. No team that old has ever even done much in the playoffs let alone win a title. They also can't take their foot off the gas at all to rest these guys going into the playoffs or they're falling to the play-in bracket.
It would be historically unique for a team that made a massive trade deadline move to win. Hasn't happened in at least twenty years. It takes time to build the level of cohesive play needed to win in the playoffs.

You can’t be the worst player on your team defensively for your entire career and be hunted by the other teams offense your entire career and be called the GOAT. He’s the best 3 point shooter in NBA history and very gifted. He’s not a complete basketball player though. Jordan and Lebron spent many years being defensive juggernauts as well as the best offensive player in the game at the same time.
NBA teams scheming to stop the other teams best player and one of the better players in the league is not something new or novel. Most great NBA players draw doubles and the attention of the other teams defense.

Your argument ranks right up there with his insistence that he's the greatest point guard ever. Magic is still laughing.

Kobe= jump shot Steph = 3 pointer
You know you’re a GOAT when kids were saying “Kobe” after sinking a paper ball in the trash can.

Compared to guys like Kareem, MJ, and LeBron, his defensive side of the ball is far too weak to be on their level. He is the tier right below them though
