I don't know why I feel so strongly about this. Guess it's my damned altruistic streak... But Florida State got hosed here. The ONLY question should have been Texas vs BAMA.... And what ESPN just did/is doing saddling Booger with 4 other commentators apologizing for BAMA is disgusting. This false narrative of "FSU isn't the same team...", Joey Galloway and Kirk and Greg McElroy with the "but look at how the teams have played over the last couple of weeks...."

Let's do that! Let's talk about a BAMA squad that should have been COOKED against a hapless Auburn team. A BAMA team that needed not 1, but TWO miracles to pull that one out.... A BAMA team that beat a Georgia team that was reportedly weakened, but also a UGA team that has trailed in 6 or 7 games this season. I remember a UGA squad that the national voters were reluctant to even place no. 1 because of how unimpressive they looked throughout.... But NOW that it supports the narrative it seems as if BAMA has just accomplished some herculean feat! According to the commentators, Milroe is playing at an "elite" level...really?? 190yds passing, 29yds rushing is "elite"? A 31-yard PRAYER against an unranked opponent (that LSU embarrassed, btw) in the last game of the season is elite now? (and please spare me the "rivalry" nonsense)

FSU IS deserving. More deserving than BAMA, and I'm heartbroken for those kids. I don't like FSU any more than I like BAMA. But, a Power 5, undefeated conference champion? This strawman argument of "The Best Four...." is laughable. BAMA hasn't magically proven to me that they are playing "elevated" football right now. To say they eeked out a win over Auburn is an understatement. Beating a hobbled UGA team after a missed UGA field goal? Yeah.... I don't think there's very much honesty in trying to characterize them as "one of the best 4" other than the idea that if you win the SEC, then you must be, by default?

What if...

FSU stomps UGA
Michigan and Washington lose
Texas or Bama wins a crappy NCG

AP #1 for FSU?

I get what you’re saying bro. FSU got hosed for sure. BUT, if they’re goin w/the best 4 then they got it right. Arguments everywhere, but the bottom line is FSU is NOT the same team w/o Travis. Imagine Joe Burrow having been hurt vs Texas A&M in ‘19. Was all know that with Brennan at the helm, things may have turned out differently, AND LSU would’ve been a COMPLETELY different team. It’s 110% unfortunate and unfair, but Bama would be a 10+ point favorite over a Travis-less FSU in the Sugar Bowl. It’s about the now. Bama MAY be the #1 team right now.

My entire point is that BAMA is NOT in "the best 4". I believe that BAMA is good enough that, given the right matchup, they could play with and beat almost anybody....

NOW, we're ALSO talking about a BAMA team that was AT FULL STRENGTH with their "elite" QB needing miracles (plural!) to beat an unranked Auburn squad that was ROLLED by LSU. This wasn't months ago. This was little more than a week ago. Let's also remember that this same Auburn team got beaten 1 week prior by New Mexico State.... New. Mexico. State.... This was a full strength BAMA team facing a diminished UGA that needed a missed FG to avoid overtime. Let THAT sink in and tell me about "best 4 teams"... For FSU to be able to adjust and re-tool their offense and play absolutely lights out defense to secure victory is impressive and should be rewarded. They earned their spot and there was NOTHING that BAMA has done that will justify their unprecedented leap from no. 8 to no.4....

Well then, cant have that can we.

However. Bama would be sitting home, with FSU given their rightful place.

For all we know, the FSU QB will have a good bowl game and a great 2024 season and people will need to be reminded FSU didn’t get invited to the playoff because their QB wasn’t good enough.

I hope the kid has a lights out bowl game.

Some observations:
-If FSU is punished for struggling in their conf champ game while playing with their 3rd string QB why is Bama excused for needing a miracle to beat Auburn 2 weeks ago after Auburn got stomped by New Mexico St?

-If the Bama win over UGA proved to the CFP folks that Bama has arrived, then why did UGA get dropped all the way to 6th?

-Why isn't Bama penalized for struggling with USF, beating Arkansas by 3, A&M by 6?

-The committee also knows that FSU gets their 2nd string QB back for the playoffs and he has looked better than than the 3rd string true FR. Shouldn't that be taken into account?

Ohio State 2014, are they as good without JT Barrett, their starting QB? Probably not, but given a chance Cardale Jones wins a natty for the Buckeyes.
FSU should be given at least the chance.

I understand the frustration on behalf of FSU. I hate it for them. If Travis was still playing, they are likely in, not Bama.

But, the injury came into play, and, when packaged with other factors, it does weigh them down below Bama. Yes, Bama struggled against Auburn. Same is said about FSU against Florida, Georgia against Ga Tech, and Washington vs WSU that same week. That is what happens in rivalry week. Washington also barely survived numerous games this season, so do we apply that same logic to them and start going down the "WHAT IF" rabbit hole?

The biggest thing I have a hard time with when looking at FSU is their weaker schedule compared to the others. They didn't really beat a marquee team and the combined record of their opponents is sub .500. That is not good. If we want to accept undefeated conference champs as criteria, then let's put Liberty in and take Texas out.

Aren’t injuries just part of the game that everyone has to deal with? Does an elite defense not count for anything anymore? I didn’t hear anyone saying Travis single handedly beat LSU. This is such a scam in BAMA’s favor. They did everything they could to ensure BAMA made it.

Yeah...it's kinda the nail on the coffin for me.

I had forgotten how I felt about the Mulligan Bowl in 2011 / 2012. We learned then the big names will get the nod over any lesser program.

I see people on facebook from my hometown in ACC country commenting and they (not being SEC fans) are now realizing the level of corruption.

From now own, I personally pledge to not pay any attention to (or watch) college football outside of the time it takes to watch an LSU game. I'm guessing there's many others like me.

And that is a real shame.

Stop with this “ FSU is punished for struggling in their conf champ game” crap . They were last night double digit winners over a top 15 team at a neutral site in a game that was a near pick’em. Norvel did a great coaching job. That win over Louisville is something to be proud of, not something to look down upon.
