I watched some of the games out of curiosity this weekend. I can't really see myself watching it every weekend for the next few months

The only thing it has going for it is using established networks and announcers/sideline reporters. So it's presented like we are used to, for the most part.

Yea come March I'll be paying attention to CBB on saturdays.

Saturday's games were more entertaining as the scoring was much higher. It'll definitely be taking a backseat to March Madess. Hopefully they have some down to the wire playoff finishes to keep the fans interested.
Anyone know how the playoff format works?

The XFL has a 10-week regular season, with each team hosting 5 home games, and no bye week. This is followed by a two-week post-season, featuring the top two teams in each conference competing in a single elimination bracket.

Yeah, we'll see how it goes in the long term. That's always the test for new leagues.
The XFL kickoff game got a 3.3 million viewer average compared to the AAF's 2.9 mil. It's not a bad debut by any means, but like with the AAF, a lot is about sustaining things.
If the XFL keeps tv and attendance numbers the same (there were about 17k at each game) it has a chance at getting a foothold.

That AAF game was on CBS and the rest moved to lesser channels. All of the XFL games will be on ESPN, ABC, FOX, FS1. I think you will see the ratings hold up a better in the XFL than the AAF

what was the reasoning behind that?

Bill Burr giving a shout-out to the XFL on his podcast.

It was a piss poor plan from the start and that's the reason it didn't even last the season. They have been planning the XFL for at least 3 years.

The fan interest in the AAF seemed semi-ok, what killed that league was financial mismanagement. They saw they were losing a ton of money and pulled the plug, but losing a bunch of money the first few years is a given, so you have to wonder WTF they were ever thinking.
I personally knew a lot of people who were really interested in the AAF. Not so much with the XFL. McMahon is a relatively savvy guy when it comes to sports entertainment and making money. He’ll pull the plug just as quick if he sees the marketing return numbers look bad. But I don’t think he will just because of being in the red for the first year or two if the indicators are that there is sustainable positive revenue within the first 3-5 years.

Better watch it while you can.

We said this Week 1 of AAF
Lets see if it lasts
The 1st weekend of the AAF, this board was littered with just as many posts/threads.
It's really not much different, and interest fell off really quickly, and I assume the same will happen with the XFL.

The AAF died because they had no money not because people didn't watch.
I can see the XFL lasting awhile if Vince McMahon continues to dump money into this thing.

but for the most part it was just "we know we're offering sub-par football, but we're better than nothing!"
That's all the XFL was. The games and talent were terrible in the XFL this past weekend. The QB play, specially, was absolutely dog shite. The league is going no where with QB play like that.
It has just been marketed a little better than the AFL. Consumers are so stupid. I cant believe how many people are saying that was a good product

Outside of about 10-15 quarterbacks, the qb play in the NFL is dog shite.
