“After Friday's loss, [Warren Easton coach Jerry] Phillips lamented what he didn't have.

“Nobody (on his team) wants to kick,” he said. “It's not glamorous. I can't find a kicker.”

...

Westage [sic] kicker Dylan Bourque made both extra points against Easton and was stellar against Karr. Tigers coach Ryan Antoine was asked what he attributed to Bourque being good. “Soccer,” he said.

“We don't have a soccer team,” Phillips said, shaking his head.

Shouldn’t need a soccer team to find someone to kick a 20 yard FG. I’ve never played soccer in my life and I could easily hit that over and over

Sterlington with 2 40+ yarders that was the difference in their win over Union.

Warren Easton doesn't even attempt an 18-20 yard field goal to win. To be a fan of of WE cuts time off your life. Three losses by 1 point in finals since 2014 I think. Horribule.

I have a 7th grader and 8th grader this year that could’ve won them a state championship. 7th is good up to 37 or so. 8th grader 40. At some point it’s on the coaches to develop a kicker. They have 50 kids that are capable of being taught to kick extra points, and that’s longer than what they needed to win it all.

I remember when my dad taught me my arse was playing whatever position coach needed. I wasn’t allowed to have a favorite position.

To be fair…

I don’t think every one of them could boot it in that situation… it seems easy on the practice field, but the state championship on your shoe is a big deal and a lot of HS kids can’t handle that

Does Pulaski kick field goals or is it just punts they don't do?

They probably don't have a coach that knows how to teach kicking to them either.

Warren Easton actually had a decent soccer program 20 years ago but it was mostly Honduran guys that had immigrated here. At a school where no one has played soccer, it’s not easy to find a kicker.

Isn’t that East Jefferson or West Jefferson these days?

My small high school football team had a great kicker. That was the difference in many games.

The coach developed the kid and the kicker had his own kick time during practice.

The coach made it happen.

Are there no kids in their school that have played any soccer? I don't have any clue about their area, so it's possible that the answer is no.

But what about every school year having PE concentrate a portion of time on teaching soccer and seeing if there's any talent? I think that would be the easiest plan.

The coach never bothered to identify and develop a kicker. It's on him.

Nobody plays soccer around here but for 3-4 years in a row we had exchange students who could boot it. That ended when Covid shut down the exchange program.

They have 1,000 plus kids from the entire city of New Orleans + whom they’ve recruited…

That and terrible clock management at the end of the game. Don’t think they would’ve won but having two timeouts and just letting the clock run at the end of the the game when you have the ball is terrible coaching
