That Southern Miss game was absolutely embarrassing.

I attended that game with my parents. Now my mom is the nicest, sweetest person you could ever want to meet. Never has a bad word to say about anyone. After the game was over she asked if my dad and I would walk with her down to the stands right over the tunnel so she could boo Dubose to his face as he walked off the field.

I noticed is that FSU scored 2 points in the championship game

Richt had accepted the UGA head job a few weeks prior (Decemebr 26th I believe) and was pretty likely mentally split between both gigs. Idon't think anyone expected a putrid 2, which is laughably bad, but I don't think he was fully invested in the gameplan at the time either.

My memory sucks but I seem to remember FSU was on their 3rd string QB that year against OU.

No Weinke was the starter all year, and won the Heisman. You’re thinking of ‘98 when they lost Kendra and Weinke and had to play the last part of the season, including the title game against Tennessee, with Marcus Outzen as starter.

Alabama ran UCLA's first punt of the year back for a TD. That's all I got.

That was 2001 I think.

No, it was 2000. We were preseason #3 and when Milons ran that opening punt back everyone thought, "This is the year!!!!!!" But then UCLA spent the rest of the game physically dominating us.

I remember it too well. FSU was basically a juggernaut all year with a top 5 offense and top 5 defense and NFL players everywhere, but we didn't have a kicker and had Wide Right III against an insanely talented Miami team. Then we sneak into the NC game and everybody thought we'd slaughter OU and probably would have but Mark Richt had just taken the UGA job and literally didn't do a minute of prep for that game. I love Mark Richt but he screwed FSU on the way out by not at least putting forth some effort to gameplan for FSU instead of house shopping in Athens. Bob Stoops knew every single play and every single route and feasted on that predictable I formation play action shite
