re: How obvious is it that the NBA is a vastly superior product to the NFL?

The problem is nobody cares until the playoffs. Too many games, same issue in baseball and hockey. People aren't going to invest their time in something that is ultimately meaningless.

The NBA's biggest problem is a very long regular season that then lets in a bunch of teams into the playoffs who have no impact. The last time two teams seeded 6 or lower made the second was 2007. Upsets simply do not happen in the NBA playoffs, and no pro playoffs go more according to form. It lacks drama until the late rounds.
That said, the quality of play is outstanding right now, and it's good to see a team-oriented squad like the Hawks go on a run instead of one of the collection of superstars (I know the Spurs have the rep of team-first, but they also have the best power forward ever and the best player of this era). When was the last time a team won the title without an MVP candidate?

I see your problem.
Imo, basketball is too monotonous. Sure there's more scoring so that the same people who like the frequent bells and whistles of slot machines are attracted to it, but I prefer sports that require a bit more planning and strategy to score.

That used to be the case but it really isn't this year. The NBA is incredibly entertaining -- especially the playoff races in the West. Every game seems like a playoff game.

Adam Silver's idea about changing the playoffs is something that would make the NBA even better. I agree that the East kind of puts a damper on things but the first round of last year's playoff was awesome. I think this year will be crazy.

I strongly disagree with this thread. It's almost impossible for me to sit through an entire regular season NBA game. However bad the refs in the NFL are, NBA refs are much worse. They suck so fricking bad.
And the piped in music DURING play? That shite is so ghetto.

Laugh all you want, but Oracle, Chesapeake, AT&T Center, and the Grindhouse during big games blow places like Allen Fieldhouse out of the water.
No, just no. Sure, it'll blow places like Alabama and A&M out of the water...but not AFH. That's just ridiculous People at AFH don't need organs piping in the "DE-FENSE" chant to know when to clap.

Agreed. A big game at Kansas, Duke, Indiana, Kentucky, Mich St, or Syracuse has something that no NBA crowd does and it's the biggest difference between a decently loud NBA crowd and a ridiculously loud college crowd: a large, drunk student section. There has never been an NBA crowd that can match a UNC/Duke game at Duke when both teams are ranked in the top 5 or 10. Georgetown at Syracuse two years ago (and Duke/Syracuse last year) when they were both ranked in the top 10 brought over 35,000 to the Carrier Dome.

I agree with you. I get way more pumped up for NBA games, than I do for the NFL. If it wasn't for fantasy football I'd be a casual NFL fan. Since I've moved to New Orleans I've gotten way more into the Pels (probably go to more than half of the home games), and I attend more Saints games (3 or 4 games per season), but I've found my interest in the Pels has greatly surpassed my Saints fandom.
I usually only go to Saints games with friends, but I'll attend Pels games alone if none of my friends are available.

I find basketball to be the most boring major sport by far. I just don't find it entertaining at all.

The best athletes in the world are in the nba. Just an FYI if you actually want to watch competitive sports.

Don't care how good they are as athletes, there's just so much scoring it becomes boring. It's like a Michael Bay Film with too many explosions, they just become boring after a while.

God, those uniforms are just atrocious.

A lot of 90's uniforms were atrocious.

You're being willfully ignorant. You know that's not what I meant.

The game in Stillwater today will have a better atmosphere than nba games as well. Having students there makes all the difference in the world. You can't replicate that in the nba

American TV viewers more than disagree with the OP.
161.3 million Americans watched Super Bowl XLIX
18 million viewers tuned in to watch the Spurs clinch in Game 5
