meh, it's not the same.
Depends where you go. I'd put places like OKC, GS, and Memphis up against any college atmosphere when it is a big game, especially in the playoffs.

Yes, but it's not like that every year
It is becoming more of trend though.

Yeah I told my dad that the other day. The NFL has declined so much since Goodell has gotten in.

Yeah, but the biggest venus in college (Duke, Kansas, Wisconsin) are up for EVERY game.

I would not watch the NFL if it weren't for gambling.
Gambling is saving the NFL. They should be pushing for it to be legalized just like the NBA.
I've grown to not even care about the Saints. I honestly could not care less if they win on Sundays. If they get to the playoffs, I will cheer for them though.

I really only care about the Saints and my fantasy team. I never watch a full game unless it involves the Saints or if I'm drinking with friends.

This is exactly how I am with the Texans now. If the game is boring at half time, I might go take the dog for a walk or grab lunch.

I just moved to New Orleans and I thought it would make me care more.
The exact opposite happened.
I care WAY more about the Pels than I used to. Maybe it's because they've gotten better? But I think it's just because the league is way better.

Outside of the Saints games I don't really watch the NFL. I grew up loving the Saints, but this year something was off. Maybe it was the fact that the team was so bad, but I just think the games are boring nowadays. I wish the NFL would have followed the college route by reforming the game without drastically changing it.

College football is lightyears better than the NFL. And that's with half the teams not having competent quarterbacks.
Way more excitement in the college game. And each game really matters. If you lose a heartbreaker in college, your season could be over. If you lose a heartbreaker in the NFL, oh well, you get to play a game that means just as much the next weekend. And the next one. And the next one.

The Pels have made it really hard to love them at times but this team is capable of some amazing shite and some mind numbing shite.

I have two teams that I will love for the rest of my life, unconditionally.
LSU Football
Yankees Baseball
In all the other sports, I just latch on to whatever team has players that I like and plays the type of style I like. For example, the 2010-2012 Celtics, 2011 Mavs, 2004-2006 Pistons, 2001-2003 Kings in basketball. The Patriots recently in football.
However, the Pels might be moving towards that list of teams I cheer for no matter what. At least for the next 10-12 years while we have AD (hopefully).

Yeah I totally disagree with the notion that nba arenas are as exciting as top college ones. Watching a Kansas home game is fricking exhilarating and the crowd is wayyyy more hyped than any nba game.
And I get that CBB is way worse than the nba but it's just as fun. I think it's actually more to fun to follow in the regular season. So much shite is going on. Trying to make the tournament, trying to win the conference, fighting for seeding, etc...every game has huge impacts on all of that. It's great.
The nba is a billion times better though as far as quality basketball, obviously. I'm with you that poor play is often entertaining

It obviously varies by game WAYY more in the NBA and a lot of teams have bad atmospheres, but I will put up what Memphis will look like Sunday when they play the Hawks up against any college venue.

I am seriously trying, but I just can't keep up with it as much anymore. The product has just gotten too bad and I blame my enjoyment of the NBA on that a lot.
Then again it might just be because I mainly watch SEC basketball....
eta: I've enjoyed watching Arsenal way more this year than Bama or Kentucky basketball

I think you could shorten the NBA season to 65 games and it would make the product even better
The first year I really got into the NBA was the strike shortened season. I liked it

I prefer football to basketball, but I like the NBA better than the NFL.

Its not obvious at all since I watch the NFL and haven't watched the NBA in years.

I loved that year.
Start the season on Christmas Day. The anticipation for opening day would be huge.
And each game would matter even more with a shortened season.
ETA: You know all the players want to play less games.

The NFL is still the much, much better product and it's not even really close. The best two sports leagues/products in this country are the NFL and college football, and then there is a huge gap before anyone else factors in.
The NBA calendar shouldn't start until Christmas Day, maybe Thanksgiving Day at the earliest. It's hard for me to really get into the NBA when the better sport is going on and heating up when the NBA starts. It's also hard to care about a regular season when I know over half the teams in the league are going to make the playoffs and 2-4 playoff teams are going to be at or below .500 each year, while the NFL has only had two teams in the history of the league make it in with sub .500 records. They need to lop off at least 4 playoff teams and then we'll have something again.
