It’s more than that. The camera doesn’t catch everything since it follows the puck. Even though he plays for my team’s geographical rival, I encouraged my friends to focus on Quinn Hughes from Vancouver when they played the Kraken. It’s an enlightening experience witnessing the individual skill combined with teamwork involved.

Stars baby. Met a Buffalo Sabres fan at a wedding this weekend and spent a couple of hours arguing about whether Brett Hull's foot was in the crease or not. I determined it wasn't.

I was at the Wild game this past Monday. Go to a few a year up there when on business

My favorite sporting event and the X is really nice

Bonus, wild have the best mascot in sports because it has a mullet (or hockey flow)

Grew up in Atlanta. Played hockey my entire youth from a 5 year old , through competitive travel hockey and high school hockey and a little beer league.

I follow it more closely than any other sport (outside of Open Wheel Racing) , Was a huge Thrashers fan, now a Preds fan.

Can't wait for Atlanta to get a NHL team back

I don't understand how anyone can enjoy basketball knowing hockey exists.

As I understood the referendum, it involved a special tax district for the arena, and some capital infrastructure improvements (which were already needed) from the county. Krause has funding lined up for the arena itself, and was intending to use development rights for the condos and restaurants to offset costs. I don't think the county is out if pocket in anything except road widening and an exit off 400.

Still, if Krause pulls it off, the arena itself will print cash, a la The Battery. Atlanta needed another major arena, as Philips was always packed with events.

That said, Carter's group has the rights to the North Point mall site, and that makes a lot more sense for an arena development, as it already has the infrastructure in place. I *think* Krause is farther along in his plans than Carter is, though I'd be willing to bet the NHL would love to have Carter as the face of an ownership for a handful of reasons.

Anyhow, I've hijacked the thread enough. Hockey is an excellent sport, and is best enjoyed live. A lot of great memories with the NHL as a whole, though I haven't paid as much attention since the $pirit sold my team.

This year's playoffs I'll probably pull for Columbus, as holy crap that's a hard luck franchise.

Panthers fan since i grew up with them and was born almost 2 years before they started. It was nice to go to a game in Florida and to be able to wear jeans. When we got the Disney bundle, ESPN+ was included and I was able to catch their games in BR. We got into it the year we reached the Finals in 2023 but got wrecked by Vegas. 2024 was a damn magical time. I got let go from my job due to downsizing the day after Game 3 (Fathers Day Weekend) and jokingly said "well at least we are up 3-0, so it can't get worse.

Fast forward to Game 7 and I am feeling every single emotion possible. It didn't hit me hard enough until I rewatched the highlights the next morning (wine suppressed some feelings) and I teared up. It was really cool to be able to live during a time where I saw all my hometown teams win their first championships: Heat '06, Marlins '97 (but '03 was more memorable) now the Panthers '24. Never thought the organization would put together a team as dominant as they were but I'm thankful they did.

The state of the NHL is getting better. 4 Nations Faceoff hype died down but 2026 Winter Olympics should reignite interest. Players are getting paid more. You can watch any team from either home or away broadcasts. The players are studs that only care about the game although you have some bad eggs out there that are notorious for dirty play. YT comments and reddit threads will help you figure that out. Rules aren't complicated after you understand icing and offside. Just can't use your stuck for anything besides going after the puck, if that makes sense.

The biggest event at the X in St. Paul isn't even a Wild game. It's the Minnesota State HS hockey tournament. Incredible tournament that was just held a week ago.

More people go to the AA Championship on Saturday night than a Wild game. Still holds the attendance record. Semifinal Friday is something special too.

The best thing about this tournament is the guy on YouTube who does the hockey hair commentary.

Vegas Golden Knights fan since (as original “Misfit” William Karlsson would say) Day F@@king One!

Any sport is better in person than on TV but hockey takes it to another level…especially if you can get seats by the glass. My first NHL game was almost 40 years ago to the day. Watched the LA Kings and the then Hartford Whalers skate to a 3-3 tie. Yes, I’m that old. This was when games ended in ties. It was also the pre Gretzky days when the Kings still wore purple and gold and were basically an afterthought in the LA sports landscape compared to the Dodgers, Lakers and Raiders.

ETA: NOTHING beats NHL playoff OT.

That's absurd. They just went on a 6 game win streak. They're in position to pass the Devils for the 3 spot in the Metro.

When I was younger and lived in Boston, I was a huge Bruins fan. I'm not religious about it anymore, but I'll watch a game on TV once in a while, no matter who's playing.

If you haven't seen hockey live highly recommend you catch a game even if it is AHL or developmental league. Live hockey will totally hook you.

Quoted for truth. Live, pro hockey is about 1000 times faster than it looks on TV.

If you lived in Boston you didn't have much of a choice did you? LOL
But it must have been fun being immersed in it locally.

I became a Bruins fan for my son. Prior to that I was just a generic hockey fan living in cities without teams. When my son was young boy he chose the Bruins as his team and Tim Thomas as his role model and that was that. He played youth hockey all the way up to varsity in HS for four years.

Nothing harder than being a goalie's mom but I survived somehow.

He was just in Boston in January for the Islanders game. Lost in OT. But I am glad he got to see Marchand before he left. Still can't believe that happened.

Agree with other poster about ESPN+ carrying most if not all games.

It's been a rough last decade...especially being in our 3rd rebuild in that timeframe, while freaking expansion franchises have come in and immediately made the playoffs or better.

Congratulations on getting into the best thing going in sports right now.

If you want to follow the NHL, ESPN+ is incredible. Chances are you might already have it if you follow SEC sports. With it, you can watch nearly every out of market NHL game.

I grew up a Whalers fan, but have switched to the Kraken, and love it. They have their struggles but they are fun to watch. I know people like to bang on the Canadiens, but there’s a lot of young talent on that team.

Among the elite teams, I have to say the Panthers are always a fun watch. I’m not into the Stars, but they are loaded. I think they are going to be good for a long time.

Casual hockey fan here. Haven't watched much in a couple years because Auburn basketball has taken more of my interest. But I somehow adopted the Rangers as my team as a kid. I think it was due to NHL '94 on Sega as a kid. I remember watching them win the cup that same year and was a huge fan of Messier.

I also used to go to Bham Bulls games with my dad all the time when they were in the ECHL. I agree with the poster that told you to check out some live hockey if you can. Even if it is a team like the Bulls and not an NHL game. It's such a good sport to see in person.

My first WHA game (Birmingham Bulls) was almost 46 years ago to the day. I asked my parents to take me for my birthday. I have been hooked since and am now a Carolina Hurricanes season ticket holder.

The old ECHL games were a blast when I was just out of college, guaranteed 2-3 brawls per game.

A name I hadn't heard before might be trying to bring hockey back to Houston.

quote:

A promising new potential bidder for an NHL franchise has surfaced in southeast Texas.

Houston billionaire Dan Friedkin is considered a strong candidate to bring a hockey team to the city if and when the NHL decides to expand again, deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed to The Athletic on Thursday.

ESPN was first to report Friedkin’s interest in purchasing an NHL expansion team, noting that the league has met The Friedkin Group “on a number of occasions.”

Friedkin’s have a ton of money and own a few big soccer clubs. I think negotiating a deal with Tillman might be tough and Houston isn’t building another arena
