go look at Terry's career and tell me how its a first ballot HOF resume and Eli's isnt outside of "he won 4 SBs which is somehow now the bar that Eli's 2 SBs doesnt clear".

Well....

4 > 2

So if we're putting these guys in the HOF based on team championship totals, then yes Eli does not clear the same bar.

Eli Manning was the #1 pick overall won 2 Super Bowls and his career record is exactly .500

Jim Plunkett was the #1 pick overall won 2 Super Bowls and his career record is exactly .500

The only passing stats Eli ever lead the league in for his entire career was interceptions, three times.

And while passer rating is not the best stat, Eli was top 10 in the league only once in his career and it was 7th.

from 2008-2010 Rivers was arguably one of the best QB's in football.

He'll get in because of super bowls, but he was pretty meh.

I never said Eli was the best or was he ever even top 5
Think he’s just got a lotta shite outside of his stats that point to him being a first ballot HOFer

I think if Plunkett retired in 2010+ he’d be in the hall

A lot of years of not getting voted in from the early 90s hurts him

ETA: they’ll eventually let him in with some veterans committee thing they introduce or some shite

He'll get pushed back a few years. Brees, Brady and Ben will all go in before him. Eli might still be on the ballot when rivers is eligible, and he goes in sooner too. From there it depends when Ryan and Rodgers hang it up

Agreed. He'll go in after all these guys. And yes, that includes Ryan, by the time he's done, he'll be top-5 in pretty much every category. He's a 1st ballot HoF'er IMO.

Eli Manning has over 57,000 passing yards, 366 td passes, and 2 Super Bowl MVP awards.

Jim Plunkett has over 25,000 passing yards, 163 td passes, and 1 Super Bowl MVP award.

One of these guys is clearly a first ballot Hall of Famer, and the other one is a borderline candidate at best.

Are we really comparing Eli to a dude who played in the 70s and 80s? I agree Eli is better, but come on.

Plunkett finished top 10 in passing yards 5 seasons, Eli 7 seasons.

I like Phillip Rivers but I don't think he even sniffs the HOF. There will be a lot of other QBs becoming eligible in the same window as him and I just don't think he'll even come close.

Right now the mortal-lock-cinches to get in Canton are Ely, Brady, Brees, and Roethlisberger. these are guys who are going in even if they never play another down.

The next tier is Rogers and Wilson. They have probably done enough to get in already.

Next up is a bunch of QBs with long careers and lots of stats but no real extended success or championships to show for them. (I'm not counting Division or Conference titles. Gotta win the whole schmear.) This is where Rivers sits with Ryan, Newton, and Stafford, none of whom get in IMO.

Is Matt Stafford a HOFer? Is Matt Ryan a HOFer? Rivers has 0 all pros and 0 SBs.

I always thought the HOF was for the very best of a sport, To celebrate the very best of the sport.

The Hall of Very Good is where Rivers belongs. Half the HOF probably doesn’t even belong there in truth. The problem is they never establish any metrics. It’s just “let’s vote” it out.

Does Rivers deserve it? Probably not. Will he likely get there. Probably.

No. Brady and Ben haven’t retired yet. Rivers will tie Brees or miss by one year, depending on competition.

Rivers is elite, but played most of his career for shite organization. Take away Rivers and the Chargers would be the Sterling Clippers / modern Knicks.

People remember these old school players A LOT better than they are.

Knoll didn't like him early on, fans didn't like him, press thought he was a rube.

Bradshaw had to win 3 Super Bowls before the fans were like, ah he's pretty good I guess and then they loved him just about the time of his last Super Bowl and impending retirement. He's talked about this, it took him 20 years to go back to Pittsburgh and receive a standing ovation because he still had animosity on how he was treated by the fans and media.

The media who gave all the credit to the D for those Super Bowls and then said later, frick it, let's just induct the whole team.

I didn't know Eli played in the 70s and 80s.

Anyone who touts stats in today's Arena League doesn't know the history of the NFL and how different decades were.

Why does anyone use passing stats from the last 10-15 years compared to previous generations as proof of anything? The game is so watered down to protect QBs and WRs stats are, quite frankly, pretty unimpressive.

Rivers Eli rapistburger shouldn’t get in.
They never were all pro.
Not once.
Much less multiple years that hof qbs currently were awarded.
