To the OP:
Lebron has lived up to expectations. He was one of the most hyped players coming into the league. Look at his stats and he is by far the best player in the league.
He guards the best player on the other team, runs the offense, leads the team in rebounds and take the brunt of criticism if the Heat lose.

Absolutely false.
You can't have an emotion about anything without being personally affected by that thing.

You're right....and wrong..
He's lived up to the hype based on individual #s...However, he should have won a ring or two by now.
I think in 09 and last year against the Mavs. Especially against the Mavs, playing with Wade and Bosh...no reason to lose that.

Mashburn was an absolute beast that game.
Nobody remembers that because of "the shot"
That he was. As was Sean Woods, who'll never get love because he got burned on "the shot" too.

Some people can seperate the athlete from his personal life/characteristics.
He is a machine designed to play basketball and its beautiful to watch him destroy people in transition.

That's fine for you, and great but why should everyone else live by your sensibilities? Why does someone have to be personally affected to have to sports hate a athlete?

So LeBron has to frick my sister before I'm allowed to dislike him. Got it. Thanks for clearing that up.

pls go, you said on this very board you are not even a basketball fan.
pls go.
I've never said that. I have said I have less interest in the NBA than other sports such as college football, NHL, college basketball and the NFL. I have never said I'm not an NBA fan, just not a huge one. And I don't even know what that would have to do with this thread, anyway. We're not debating LeBron's stats/abilities here (in which you will get no argument from me that he is not the best player in the world).

Just found this on the dark board, not relevant to this thread

I think that some people dislike LJ because it was naturally assumed that he was going to be as great as Michael before he even entered the league. Therefore, a sense of being chosen as the King or the chosen one rubbed some purists the wrong way.
I don't have a problem with James boasting about winning 7 or 8 rings. Why play the game if you think you can't win titles ? The goal of any player should be to play your best and make your team better and win championships. You can't fault James for wanting that. It wasn't happening in Cleveland, so he bolted for Miami.
The Decision came off as arrogant, but every great player has an ego and self-confidence. Those are the attributes that drive someone like Kobe and MJ to be the greatest of all time. James is a great player and he will win a title or two before he retires.
Lebron seems to be a cool guy. I can't say the same for Dwayne Wade but sports are competitive and everyone is striving for a ring. I don't see Lebron replacing MJ as the greatest player in the game but the media created that debate not Lebron.

Bron haters make me like him. I tend not to like the best player in their respective sport because greatness isn’t really interesting. I like flawed players a lot more. I prefer personality. Give me McEnroe over Borg. Watson over Nicklaus. Dr. J over Magic/Bird. Nieuwendyk over Gretzky.
Put another way – Jordan is the greatest player ever but he was also a psychotic bully. That’s how you become great. Think of the people in your life who only care about winning. Chances are pretty good you’ve just made a list of the biggest assholes you know. Why would I root for players who only care about winning? And why would I ever think they are good people, as that is contrary to my life experience?
I have no reason to think Lebron is a bad person. He’s been told his entire life how great he is and he comes off as a pretty affable guy, if egotistical. He’s never been arrested, he’s avoided scandals, he’s not a coach killer (and Lord, considering his coaches, he should’ve been), there’s not a bunch of stories about what a jerk he is to teammates, and he’s more socially engaged than the average superstar sports figure.
the key is: WE DO NOT KNOW THESE PEOPLE. But, given what we do know, I find Lebron to be fairly affable and his lack of titles makes him far more interesting than most great players. I find him interesting, compelling, and pretty great. Really, what’s not to like?
