Washington is just one of those schools that every once in a while puts together a damn good team. I've always loved their traditional uniforms and quietly root for them. I still say they were the best team in the country in 2000

Gee, a school with a $6 billion endowment with 50K students in a world class city? The question is why don't they do it more often and more consistently.

That logic would mean that Georgia should be the worst team in the world.

They have a wealthy alumni base but they’re not an SEC style base. But I love their purples.

I always laugh when I hear Miami fans complain about getting screwed out of the Orange Bowl that year. They always fall back on “we finished with the same record as FSU and beat them head to head.” Not realizing that they’re saying that Washington deserved to be in the game ahead of them.

Yeah, for the longest time they were the overflow school for kids out of CA. Warren Moon played there and I believe he was from the LA area as was Burnell and Tuiasosopo. Washington used to own the Bay area in the 70s and early 80s

But there is some good ball played in Washington State especially south of Seattle and Tacoma.....farm boys

As a head coach, he is:

14-2 at Washington
12-6 at Fresno State
67-3 at Sioux Falls (3 NCs)

For a total record of 93-11. The guy wins football games.

Tuiasosopo is from Woodinville, WA. His dad played for the Seahawks. Brunell is from Santa Maria, CA.

California recruiting is essential for Washington. They were also one of the first mainland teams to raid Hawaii.

The whole Sea-Tac area is very underrated in recruiting and UW is a great place to go to school.

Oregon historically depends a lot more on out of state recruiting (namely, California).

Almost all all coaches who climb the ranks to a P5 program leave behind them a record like that. That’s how they climb.

FSU (11-1)
Lost a squeeker @ 10-1 Miami
Clowned 10-2 SEC champ UF (d'oh!)
Clowned 9-2 Clemson 54-7

Miami (10-1)
Won close game at home 11-1 FSU
Clowned 10-1 VT with Vick still there
Lost close game on the road 10-1 Washington

Washington (10-1)
Won close game at home 10-1 Miami
Won close game at home 10-1 Oregon St
Lost close game on the road 9-2 Oregon

Since USC had to vacate the '04 title, Washington was the last Pac 12 school to win the Coaches National Championship.

By diverse, the Seattle area is mainly white and asian, followed by latino and then black, which makes up less than 7% of the population. So when it comes to football, there is not a large local supply of highly ranked African American football players from which to choose. Fortunately for them the west coast has a ton of talent to supplement their roster. So, it is impressive that Washington can occasionally challenge for a playoff spot. They just struggle to maintain that level. Usually good, seldom great.

Easy answer. They have one of the best coaches in the country. Kinda criminal that dude doesn’t get the respect he deserves. He’s a guy that can take a bottom dweller and turn it around. Also a guy you do not want coaching in the SEC. …..unless it’s LSU

You can’t rely on King County all stars and UW doesn’t.

His recruiting isn’t good enough. He’s a midwestern guy through and through.

That’s why UW has to go all in on the Polynesian players. Vita Vea for example.
