How did Deshaun Watson become this bad?

I've seen players decline before, but Watson's decline is more like falling off a cliff. He was electric at Clemson and on the Texans putting up pretty good numbers, that's why the Browns were even willing to pay him that much. Then he gets to the Browns and he legitimately looks awful. His last year on the Texans he threw for over 4800 yards, 70.2%, 33-7 TD/INT. Then he gets to the Browns and suddenly his completion percentage is below 60% and is throwing nearly the same amount of picks as TDs.
Today he went in a preseason game in the 2nd half, against 3rd stringers and dudes that probably won't even be on active rosters. Goes 5/12, 36 yards, 0 TDs and afterwards pick. Throwing passes into the dirt.
You can say he doesn't care because he got paid, but there's gotta be more to it than that. Jay Cutler didn't gaf either but he still went out there and looked liked he belonged and was starter material his whole career. And we've seen Watson have the talent before to compete against NFL defenses. Watson looks like he had his talent drained by the football version of the Monstars or something.

He lost his release point... at the spa. His mind has never been the same.

Deion is probably threatening him so his son gets to play.

His last regular season game was in 2024.
It's going to take awhile to get back into the swing of things.
I thought he played his last game for Cleveland.

Apparently he forgets how to play the quarterback position if he isn't regularly getting massages.

People think Watson's just gonna pull a great game out of his arse after all that time off? Sheesh

A new quarterback coach should fix that

Probably the two Achilles tears and fractured throwing shoulder and all the associated time off

Worst trade of all time. Watson had sat out for at least a year- maybe more, of course he was going to suck.

Jay Cutler had “Resting IDGAF face”. He actually did try to be good.

Richard Sherman jinx Watson by calling him a future MVP.

There's some truth in that. Tiger lost his mojo when he couldn't bang skanky waitresses any more.

He was taking a beating before all the massage parlor stuff and now he’s had back to back achilles tears so that probably has something to do with it

This is probably Sanders job to lose.

This. It just goes to show how good some of these dudes are in the NFL. The game doesn’t wait for anybody and is moving on every year. Maybe it should make us look at how hard it is to overcome injuries and other stuff, yet still play at that high level.
All of that to say this. He may just be a weak-minded, mental midget freak with a massage fetish that fooled people just long enough to get that big contract. Hell I don’t know.

His career did go downhill after the 25 massage episodes. He ruined himself

Hes played 19 games in 6 years.

Most athletes don’t ever come back from 1 Achilles tear let alone 2. He should be retired

no way

He completely lost his competitive edge with the public embarrassment of the 50+ massage therapists allegations.
Let us not forget that the pathetically desperate Saints (Dennis Allen & GM Mickey Loomis) were dead center in the bidding war with Cleveland and Atlanta to acquire the services of DeShaun Watson when the Texans were dumping him.
Watson is a cautionary tale / punch line.
Wasted talent.
