Character absolutely matters.
Watson got the money guaranteed, and clearly doesn’t GAF.
Very few wealthy athletes have the internal drive to excel. Few and far between.
Those that do:
Woods
Brady
Mahomes
Nicklaus
Some who didn’t:
Spieth
Thomas
Cousins
Flacco
Jackson
I wouldn’t put Watson in the latter class mainly because the five I listed care and have class, they just don’t care enough to put in the work necessary to be elite.
Watson doesn’t care. There are a lot of professional sports who make generational wealth and frankly don’t care anymore.
