say what?

He's swindled some GM's on trades. You can't blame a GM for free agents not wanting to sign in Houston. There is nothing Morey could say to get them here.

I am frickin done with the Rockets. Their retardedness to rent a player for the year is just unreal.

If they do it its because Morey is banking on the Money and extra year being too good to pass up. SO really he's trading for a rental, and the right to make BY FAR the best offer to him in FA.

Assuming it goes through where would he be able to sign of his "preferred" destinations?

Almost certainly not Brooklyn or LAL. That leaves the Mavericks. Would he really want to take a year less and 25 million dollars less just to move across the state of TX? I'd be pretty surprised if Howard ends up on any team long term that isn't the team he finishes the 12-13 season with.

This entire off season has been a disaster for Houston. I thought the PG situation was bad enough, but putting all your eggs in one basket (for a player who may not even resign after one year) is craziness. Hopefully they wise up.

So basically like the T-Mac trade, Rockets become the Magic and the Magic become the Rockets. This would sound so much better if I thought there was ever a chance CP3 would sign a deal with the Rockets, but as it stands I think there is no chance CP3 signs with the Rockets.

Those salaries should match up.

The Rockets are stuck in mediocrity right now.

I have no problem whatsoever with this tactic. If they acquire Dwight and are able to keep him then they get their superstar.

If they get Dwight and lose him to FA then so be it. Sure they will be one of the worst teams in the NBA, but being stuck as a fringe playoff is an even worse position to be in.

They have Montiejunas, who by reports would have been the 2nd overall pick in this past draft. They have enough cap space to sign a max level player next offseason. Even if it is not CP3. JSmoove and Monta Ellis are also FA's next offseason.

Go for it, Houston.

Its all abotu reality. In the NBA, you cannot win without a SuperStar in this day and age. Morey knows this.

You can choose to scratch and claw your way to mediocrity or you can sell out and get a Superstar and try to patch it together around him.

Morey may fail here, but his thinking is sound

I think Palillo was hinting at this, they cant keep just missing the playoffs getting mid-round picks every year and expect to get better. Just by far the most annoying spot to be in.

Well they'd also be the worst team short on draft picks to rebuild

so if he's that good, why in the world would Orlando not say "we get him or no deal"? cap space and Royce only go so far. give me a player, playa!

Yep, basically putting off a complete blowup for a year and then have no draft picks.

Protections would almost certainly be put in place.

The Rockets could be the Bobcats in 2 years...with no first round picks to rebuild with.

there are reports they'd be able to get out from under those contracts after this next year

they're punting this year to sell houston to dwight and target cp3 (or one of the other super FAs next year)

cp3

montejunas
howard

yeah i'm curious how these picks will be structured. i sincerely hope they're not going to trade their first next year after their almost assuredly shitty season this year

this is easily the best offer they've gotten

clear the bad contracts and get some young talent? there are no superstar-level talents, but they'll have cap space + picks in a year or 2
