There was ample reporting done last season revealing that when Harden strong-armed Houston in the summer before the 2020-2021 season, it wasn't the first time. He had issued an ultimatum to management the year before, resulting in the disastrous Russell Westbrook trade. It's easy to say this now with the benefit of hindsight, but that's actually when the Rockets should have moved off of Harden. They would still have the picks they currently owe to Oklahoma City and could also have the return they would have gotten in a trade of Harden - maybe the package the Thunder got for Paul George. Oh well.

Rocket fans do y’all agree? Did you wait too long on pulling the trigger on Not So Slim Jim?
I guess Jim isn’t revered in Clutch City.

I know most people agree that Harden was the reason for the stupid Chris Paul/Westbrook trade.

And it was also clear through later reports after he left that he had the run of the place when Les Alexander still owned the team, and he utilized that freedom to the max. Even Russell Westbrook was alarmed at the lax behavior of Harden (missing film sessions and other important team activities). Personally I can't believe a professional athlete was allowed to behave so childishly and its even more sad because he still had a ton of success.

With that being said, the Harden era ended for me when they got Westbrook. The new era with Tilman is already started and it still has a ways to go to make me care.

I'm not the biggest Harden fan, but I will never complain about a franchise who tries to go all in to win a title. The Rockets had a small window, and it may never have been real actually, but they got to a huge Game 7 against GS and got so hosed by the officials everyone agreed it was bad.

So maybe they could have traded him a year or two before, but they were only a few years away from being a game from the finals

I don’t remember this narrative ever.

Rockets got hosed in Game 7, but they also couldn't make any three pointers that night.

Golden State got a third title because CP3's hammy gave out.

is that the one where they missed 20+ threes in a row?

You might not remember how bad it was. But I do. The refs were pretty obviously one-sided, and I’m not one to complain about refs.

But they missed all of those 3’s, so that didn’t help. But several blatant no-calls happened on 3-point attempts.

And even with all of those missed 3’s and bad calls, they still only lost by 9 and the refs definitely could have swayed the outcome.

Harden got legitimately tackled on like three 3 point attempts.

Officiating was definitely an issue.

Houston should’ve won anyway; but they missed 28 straight 3’s in addition to the subpar officiating.

Yeah going 7-50 from three had nothing to do with it

For the ref blamers

P…. Bucks missed 26 straight 3s on Sunday and Giannis was 4-16 in the second half.

Any discussion about how they choked though? How come?

They lost to a obviously much lesser team team than KD Steph Klay Green

weird how the CC fans completely disappeared once the winning stopped. The rockets are never mentioned here unless it’s about Jim

place used to be covered up with rockets talk not even counting boom and his nonsense

I, for one, don’t remember the officials having anything to do with 37 missed three pointers. Including Jim, who was 2 of 13.

Letting him force the front office into the Westbrook trade was a giant mistake obviously because Westbrook is trash. But generally I’d rather my team hold on a year too long then hit the reset button a year too early.

amazing, annually top seeded team gets talked about a lot and tanking team several years out doesn't

90% of the rockets threads were just boom bait anyway

i think the other thing is that i doubt paul wanted to come back. Harden being a statue without the ball gets old

He probably didn’t, but similar to how he played the year in OKC I think he would have showed up and been a pro if Harden was gone. Since it wouldn’t have made sense to attach draft picks to get rid of CP3 at that point. Who knows though.

How much earlier should they have traded him? He was just 2 years removed from averaging 35 ppg, taking his team to G7 of the WCF.

The westbrook thing worked for a few months too. It was never good enough to win a title but it was entertaining and won a lot of games.

Ultimately Harden being fat and lazy nailed the window shut. Him forcing his way to Brooklyn after all the demands really turned me off of the NBA.

Paul was crushed by the trade. He said so himself. It caused him to go vegan for heavens sake. He was def worse that year than harden was in this season.

Bucks choked

Your problem is admitting that Jim did too
